IfoEdit Crashing..........

I just finish some previous step on my first attempt to back up a DVD. But I got stuck when I got to IfoEdit, since it crashes as soon as I try to run it after loading my Video and sound file (M2V and AC3)and cell times
with no subs at all.
I'm not sure if I miss a step some where but I did follow the guide very close. Im using Windows XP.

The cell times file HAS to be named Celltimes.txt (or whatever it
wants) otherwise IFOEDIT WILL crash. It has happened to me.

Thats actually what I named the file Celltimes.txt
I think the problem may be something different............:confused:
Any more ideas?

If the name is correct the only other thing I can think of is
whether the file is correctly formatted (without 'funny' characters)
Did you edit in any way ?

Can you play the M2V and AC3 files by themselves (to check that they
are not corrupted) ?

Also, you may try using a different version of IFOEDIT...

This is what happen:

When Using IfoEdit and Loading the video file I was loading the file:
VTS_01_([0XE0]_Video_NTSC_720X480)_1.M2V

But then I notice that a file with the same extension was there too:
Exorcist_D2V_VFAPI.M2V

SO just for fun (and going away from the guide I was using) I loaded
the file Exorcist_D2V_VFAPI.M2V, audio file and the celltimes.txt
After all this IfoEdit worked!!!!
So why the guide says load the file VTS_01_XXX I don't know,
I just know that it worked for now;
but can't tell yet if the burning will be a success. :confused:

Since the guide also uses Primo DVD and I don't
have that software.............:(
What othe software can you use for this point on????

Hmm, that's odd.

I know there's a VFAPI plugin somewhere in TMPEGENC (if I'm not mistaken) but I have no idea what it is for. Were the 2 M2V files
the same size ? The first file name (VTS_01_([0XE0]_Video_NTSC_720X480)_1.M2V) seems to be a stripped video stream.

I use NERO for burning but there are some other tools available.
Unfortunately, nearly all are commercial (i.e., not free).
The main trick is to write the files in a format that the DVD player
understands. I think it is a mixed ISO/UDF file system. Nero does
some compliance checks on the files and will complain if something is not right (although sometimes without reason, it seems).

Reading your first post again, I am curious: were you trying to
back up the DVD by authoring a new title from streams ? Did you need
to re-encode the MPEG-2 ? If not, it's much simpler just to strip
streams off the original DVD files.

yes, I was trying to re-author the movie but since it was my first attempt to backup a movie I screw it up.:D
Now Im stripping the streams from the DVD; the only problems that I have is to still use a good method to backup a bigger movie
(i.e. 7.5 GB movie, LOTR)and so far I managed to encode the movie to 4.5 GB but the movie is still to big to burn. I
have only the main audio and the movie.
Also I want to know how to encode with CCE instead of rempeg because rempeg is to slow........

You may try to re-encode LOTR with TMPEGENC (2-pass VBR, 3000 kbps,
and load the unlock template so that you can override the 2000 kbps
minimum bit-rate) It will be fairly good quality (better than VHS
anyway) for TV viewing. I usually up the average bitrate from 3000 kbps using the wizard that tells me how big the video file will be,
but how far up I can go depends on the length of the movie).
If you really want high-quality playback then the best bet would
be to split the movie into 2 DVD-Rs.

Thanks for the heads up, I going to try 2 DVD's istead and see what happens.:D
