I've been searching thru the pages, but havn't found an answer to my problem. I've downloaded some SVCD's then mounted them using demeon tools and saved the mpeg to a folder. It plays fine in powerdvd, but when I try and load it into flask, it does nothing. I had to re render the whole movie using vegas video 3.0 to load it into flask. How come I can't just load it into flask, is it possible to do this without re rendering? If i have to re render is there anything faster then vegas video?
Another question involving divx5 and any other encoding program, I'm using "Divx4 Bitrate Calculator v2.4(c) 2001 Spark" I've been using those birate values for my divx5 encoding. Are the values the same, because my movies are't coming out to be about 700MB. What program should i use to get the bitrate for divx5?
Last but not least, is there a reason why sometimes i can't choose a bitrate higher then 56kbps(nothing else higher is listed) when the recorded audio is at 224kbps?
I appreciate all the help, been doing alot of reading and learning alot on this board :)

Hi,
I can't answer your flask question, I've never used it. I think there is a thread on it in the newbies forum.
Your undersized files are because DivX4 views 1Kbit = 1000bits where as DivX5 views 1Kbit = 1024bits, which means that your bitrate is too low. Download a DivX5 calculator. Also, DivX codecs under compensate for bitrate on 1-pass encoding which I assume your doing, which is a safety precaution as you are better off with a file that is smaller than one too big.
Which audio codec are you trying to use? Is it a problem with flask specifically(cause I can't help if it is:p )?

no it's not a problem specificly with flask, i have 2 mp3 codecs, Fraunhofer and is lame a codec or a encoder?
edit: fixed the problem
I'm doing both 1 pass for small jobs and 2 pass for dvd > divx using gordian knot. Where do i get a divx5 bitrate calculator?

Hi-
Where do i get a divx5 bitrate calculator?
Gordian Knot.

sorry, but i thought gordian knot only opened d2v files, how do you do other files?
and tutorials?

you don't have to open a file with GKnot to use it as a bitrate calculator (or to determine AR, crop values, etc.). enter the number of frames your video is, what size you want it to be, and anything else that will affect bitrate (extra files, overhead, etc). you then have your bitrate, apply that to your encoder of choice.
you can use GKnot to process other sources, but they will need to be DirectShowSource in your frameserver, or AVISource. enter all your values into GKnot like you would for a DVD (things mentioned above), and then edit your frameserver manually. so basically, setup GKnot like you're doing a movie, save the .avs ("Save", not "Save and Encode"), then go and edit your .avs manually (with the correct source, crop values ~~> which can be determined in GKnot, additional filters). in GKnot, click "Add Job", make sure your frameserver is selected (after your modifications), check that the bitrate, frame count, and all that good stuff is correct, and encode to DivX. you actually don't have to use GKnot to encode, better just to use it for creating the frameservers and for bitrate calculations. Use VDub alone for encoding.
Hope that all makes sense. Just because you've used GKnot only for DVD encoding doesn't mean it can't be useful in other applications. It's the most useful tool I've run into in my experience in the DV world.
