looking for a way to play divx5-encoded clips in mplayer without further codec-instal

posting this here, because i need a very quick solution..

the problem is, that i had to encode a clip to mpeg4 to be played/stream/dl'd from our website.

i encoded it with divx5 and to my surprise it wouldn't play in mplayer6, didn't even bother trying mplayer7 than anymore.

no prob, i thought and changed the fourcc-codes, just to experience this also didn't work.

i used global motion estimation during my encode, so this might have been the prob. just encoding it again..

can anybody help out?

lol, I thought that you was talking about linux mplayer and replying that you must use the new linux section ;)

As your are targeting windows user I think that you can use DivX 3.11 & change the fourcc to MP43.
Also you can have a look at the WM9 encoder. I don't know if MS has a real mpeg4 decoder.

There is no flamewar here, I even tell you to try wmv9.
And if I ask you why you want to use divx5 it's to better understand your need and maybe try to find a better solution to your problem.

so take my excuse, sounded different to me, sorry.

i use divx5 because it is easy to handle and i am working my ass during the day. i can assure you i went through ripping WAY back in the days when it took 2,5 days to rip a movie and hours of handwork and settings were involved.

i use divx5 because it produces much less blocks than divx3.11.

i'd like to have the time to get indo xvid, but i simply don't. that actually is a shame, since i saw some amazing xvid-rips!

No problem, my english is far from perfect.

I thought you don't want to install any codec on the client computer, so it's why I suggest Divx 3.11 or wmv9 because it's from micosoft and codec are included in windows.

Can you view your movie from your hard disk ?
or is the problem caused by streaming ?
is the first goal to have streaming or download the movie ?
