DVD2AVI performance problem

hi,

i've been using GKnot for a while and it always took me around 5 minutes to create the DVD2AVI project and to get all the ac3 files when processing a 2 hours movie.
now i bought a new hdd (80GB) to replace the old one (40GB). this hdd is only to store files (the apps are somewhere else). now DVD2AVI takes up to 45 minutes to do the job.

could someone please clarify what's going on here ?

to give some more detail...

when creating the DVD2AVI project i usually choose the following audio settings, channel format set to "auto select", dolby and mpeg audio set to "demux all tracks" (so i get all .ac3 files), 48->44.1 "off".

my hardware:
athlon 1.2GHz
128MB RAM

There may be many reasons, but I can think of three possibilities:

1) You have placed the disk drive on the same IDE channel as a CD or DVD drive, and I/O on that channel will only run as fast as the CD/DVD drive, much slower than the HD would go if it was on an HD-only IDE channel.

2) Your disk is not in DMA mode. It may be something you need to set in the BIOS, or you may need to set it on in device properties.

3) Your Athlon motherboard is using a VIA chipset, and you may need to install or re-install the latest VIA "4-in-1" drivers.

It may be something else, entirely, too.

Under XP is better to not install VIA 4 in 1 drivers, just to note my experience.
It must be lack of DMA...
