Done it: Star Wars 2 - Attack Of The Clones

After many times of trying, finally got it to work.
A big thanks to Crawl for the help he provided.
The biggest thing that puzzeld me, that how could Crawl rip the first angle while in file mode with DVD Decrypter.
You will have to go to the tab: Tools
Select: Settings
Select: File Mode
In the left column you will see:
- Multi Angle Processing - Retain Angle 1 in VOB's
This is by default NOT Selected, so change this and select it !
Then rip Attack Of The Clones in File Mode and you will see in the log screen that DVD Decrypter will skip the angle 2 sectors.
When done, I also decrypted the VIDEO_TS files and the remaining Ifo and Bup from the main movie file (= VTS_01_1).
Then I started Ifoedit 0.95 and loaded the Ifo of the main movie file.
Selected: Strip Streams
Selected: Correct Original Ifo's and Create New Ifo's (movie Only)
Also select: Remove IIvu/Angle Pointer
In the next screen I selected English 6 ch surround and Dutch Sub and let Ifoedit do his thing.
When done -> Get VTS Sector of the stripped movie and watched it with PowerDVD.
Runs great, no more French Shit or jumping forward or backward.
Chapter skip etc. also worked fine and even the Sub color is ok !
Haven't check it yet on a settop player but now I doing a resize with ReMpeg2 1.5.2 and it will take a lot of hours.
Have the settings on Reference DCT/Full and Match Source -> time approx 21 Hours.
I know there are better encoders but I'am just beeing plain lazy !;)
Hope for all other memebers that it workes as good as for me.

Ok, just splitted the movie on two empty DVD-R's.
I was not happy at all with the quality, and to preserve it, I decided to split the movie.
Haven't tried it with TMPGEnc and not gonna to, see the reason above !
Maulwurf: Just read your message.
One week ago I bought a Sony NS705V DVD player and before that I had a Raite.
Well, whatever I putted in the Raite it just played the movie fine, however this is not the case with the Sony, or for that matter the Philips 612s my parents have.
If I make new ifo's and play some movies back on the Sony (Shrek) then at some points the movie hangs but with the Raite it playes fine.
So, now I never recrerate ifo's anymore, just correct the originals and create new one for movie only.
Also, I now transcode directly from the whole decrypted DVD and then remux with original ifo's and VOB's -> this also works.
Hope this answerd you questions, but I don't remux much these days.
Gonna wait until Derrow releases the Multi-Multiplex feature in Ifoedit so the Studio Logo's won't be a problem anymore !
Just split them to 2 DVD-R's, Princo's 2x speed -> price: Euro 1.60
So, for Euro 1.60 I'am not gonna do all that work anymore !

Which option do you exactly us ? Vob Extras -> Remux and then Strip or Movie Only -> Remux & Strip Streams ?

What do you exactly mean ? I never had any problems with the studio logos !

C`t Magazin, one of germany`s biggest computer magazin made the world
largest DVD-Media test. Princo Media Quality wasn`t very good !
Pioneer and Verbatim was working perfect. Maybe this is the matter
why your TMPEG-DVD`s don`t work in your Sony drive.
I have had the same problems with low quality media.

I am using Verbatim 2x metal azo. just the best and always working ...

On the main thread subject:
After 3 days or tries with various methods, SWII (Region1) on 1 DVD-R with 2 audios and 3 subtitles:
Start dvd2svcd 1.1.0 b 1c in DVD settings, let it do it's stuff.(Rip and convert)
Open the ripped IFO with ifoedit, make an image of the ripped files, mount it with daemon tools.
Start DVD2DVDR 1.3.1 and use the mounted image to rip again.
Take the MPV file (Pulldowned) that DVD2SVCD has produced, the rest (Audio, subs, celltimes) from DVD2DVDR.
Author new DVD with Ifo edit, (don't forget sub colour), finished.
Everything working in perfect sync!
The only bug: Although the movie is all there, on Power DVD the duration shows as 1:52, although we all know by now, it's 2:21.

Things I've tried and didn't work:
I'm sure I have done some additional-unnecessary steps, but the main thing is: DVD2SVCD gives a perfect CCE conversion, which is usable, the easy way. With DVD2DVDR on the other hand, if I let it do the CCE, for some unknown reason, the subs (only) are out of sync after a while.
These two together do the job!
When I used the stuff from D2S and subs and cells from Vobedit, I had the Ifoedit log complaining for buffer underruns. Same when used reempeg, plus at 65%, quality was bad and the picture was hickupping.
I think DVD2SVCD & Chatwalker should work together, THEY CERTAINLY DO ON MY PC :) , though I find it highly unlikely...

Well, it's not the Princo's.
All movies are working well, but, some are multi-angle and then it's better to correct original ones and create new one (for movie only).
In the Raite DVD player this was no problem (angle or not) however the Sony hangs, except when I set Ifoedit to correct original ones and make a new one for movie only.
Just did Shrek again (hangs at 1.19.00 mins) with the current one I have, and now did the same but with correcting original ifo's and create new one for movie only.
No problems anymore runs fine up until the end !
The options I used for Shrek are:
- Strip streams
Leave all as is in the 'strip stream screen' but check:
- Create new ifo (movie only)
- Remove IIu/Angle pointer
Press next and then select what you want to keep.
In my case English and Dutch audio and Dutch Subs.
After the strip process -> get VTS-Sectors and the movie runs fine !
Remember, the Raite is build from standard computer components and is much less critical then a commercial DVD player like my Sony (in my old Raite there was a 4x standard Toshiba computer DVD drive).
Best is that you try a multiangle movie you ripped (and runs fine on the Raite) in a commercial DVD player and see what happens.
Regarding the studio logo's.
Some studio's (Warner Bros and Universal) have a logo before the movie.
But while the logo is PAL-INTERLACED the rest of the movie is PAL-PROGRESSIVE (=NON-INTERLACED).
When using ReMpeg2 1.5.2. from the beginning, you will get atrifacts or 'shaking' video.
You can check this with the Back To The Future Trilogy.
Found a topic on the Afterdawn forum to get around this, but haven't had the time to try it yet.
I also have read the latest C'T Magazine (Dutch) but haven't come across the DVD-R test, but most of the time the German C'T contains more then the Dutch C'T !

It seems this movie has created more than its fair share of problems. I have tried a number of methods and all seemed to fial becuae of the subtitle complexity (English PAL version).

I found the following does not work -

TMPG + Ifoedit Remux - Video runs too fast after chapter one
TMPG + Ifoedit Author - "Arrive too late" error message
Rempeg + Ifoedit Remux - Works but video quality is awful even with "high" settings on Rempeg

And finally an easy solution that works without resorting to complex demux's with other apps such as DVD2DVD-R (my german is really bad)

TMPG (2 pass)
Ifoedit Author WITH ONLY THE LAST TWO SUB STREAMS. These last two streams are the basic alien translations which should suffice for most people's needs.

Hope this helps for those who want an easy solution.

I have managed to do StarWars Episode II Attack of the Clone Region 2 to 1 x DVD-R with a lot of messing around but works fine.

I done away with all angles execpt 1, stripped out the sub-standard id's to get rid of the pulsing, transcoded with ReMpeg remuxed with 0.6 and it all worked great.

Thanx for your answer! Ok, now I understood your point with standard DVD-Players ( Sony ) and Multi Angle DVD´s.
I also have a DVD with special features. Independence Day SE with seamless branching. It isn´t possible to rip this one correctly
if I use your Tmpeg discription. But I now modified it and it works with all tested ! I use the same seetings like you descriped in your
Tutorial ( DVDDecryptor,DVD2AVI) but then I open the original IFO File with IFOEdit and
use the option MOVIE ONLY -> Strip Stream & Remux ! This is a all in one option and works great. It remuxes and strips
in one step and then creates new Ifo´s (one for movie only). Then correct the Ifo and burn... What about this ?

I always use TMPEG for transcoding and never had any problems with
intro logos from warner bros / universal ! Maybe it´s a remepg problem ?

Attention with your Princos ! They use the the same Manufacture ID as TDK, but aren´t from TDK or any TDK producer.
This is illegal, and the reason why it is possible to burn them with 2x. I only say Verbatim 2x metalazo. Best quality with Pioneer A04...

Hi,

I did SW EP II (R2 PAL) on weekend using IfoUpdate in Maestro MultiPGC Mode.
Rip with DVDDecrypter in FileMode retain 1 Angle. Re-encode the Video eg. with CCESP OPVBR Q:30 (is sufficient). Rip the SubTitels and the Forced SubTitels separtely. Get an IfoUpdate report on Title 1.

Main Title (1) has 13 PGCs which needs to be build all (e.g. by Maestro Playlists). The 'Dummy' PGCs are all linked together and some of them are used for the menu selection. So they need to be re-created.
Add'l Hint: in PGC 9 move the chapter no. 2 to 00:00:01:12 (don't use IfoUpdates proposal) otherwise you won't see the introduction script at all (will be moved over, since here's the angle switch). Since I took only one angle (Maestro always jerks arround with angles :cool: ) I had to tweak the switching point. PGC 12 has 3 chapters 00:00:00:00, 00:00:00:12 & 00:00:00:24 so place PGC 9 chapter 2 right behind those at next valid position.

So, plays flawlessy with original menu, with THX setup SubTitle all together. German SubPics, German, English and comment audiotrack onboard.

I did Star Wars II AOTC Regin 2 Pal last Saturday in 1 DVD-R and it looks absolutely perfect!

Just make the rip with DVDdecrypter (the whole movie), then compress it with CCESP (what a wonderful program! the movie was 5.6GB and make it 3.55GB! Just love it). When you got the M2V file, you rip the AC3 file with VobEdit, use ChapterXtractor to got the chapters and finaly SubRip to get the subtitles.

Open up Maestro, import everything in, make the compile and here it is (a big thanx to doom9 for the amazing guides!). If I had the time I could just rip the menus also but I'm to lazy to do that ;)

I was trying for at least 5-6 days and I end up to this solution which I find it just perfect for long movies and even better for movies like Star Wars which they have this Angle thing at the beginning of the movie.
No need to cut the first 1-2 chapters, no need to cut the end credits. They all fit in a DVD-R with one audio AC3 stream and one subtitle.

2 questions:
@Sakism....did u have any prob importing the ac3 stream into maestro?
I have tried to rip the ac3 of this movie with everything i can find and i always get an error and parsing stops (async word not found). I am working with ntsc region 1.

@Arianos... what version of ifoedit are u using that u got it to make the imagefile? i have .9, .91 and .95 and all say cant find imglib.dll even though its in the same folder. Unless there is more than one imglib.dll avail. on the net...mine did not come from derrow's site.

I have a good cce m2v file....but the sound file is getting on my nerves...had to rerent the damn thing cause i figured the 1st rip was corrupt, but still get the same errors trying to get a working ac3 file..

No, no problem at all.

I use vobEdit 0.6 to strip out the AC3 file.
And the import of the AC3 to Maestro is always with success.

I have striped both PAL and NTSC movies with no problem in video or audio. And Maestro is always happy with the files I import :D

Even when I made a first rip of the movie with IfoEdit (get rid of different audio streams and subtitles), the vobs that come out are still working good for striping out the AC3 file and later to import it to Maestro.

(my english are awful... so forgive me if something don't make sense)

Did u rip angle 1 of the movie and when u did the demux of ac3 with vobedit, i assume u did .80 ac3 6channel, is this correct?

Do i have to do anything with the vobs or pgc's to get a working ac3 track?

benf2, I've ripped region 1 of this disc. Using DVD2AVI to pull out the English AC3 6ch stream, Maestro takes it just fine with no errors.

To get rid of the angles, I ripped the whole disc with DVDdecryptor and used IFOedit to strip out the vobids that corresponded to the non-English angles (I think it was vobids 2 and 3 on VTS_5).

My problem, which has driven me to give up the backup at this point, is dealing with the alien subtitles.

I'm sure I'm pulling out the correct subtitle stream (subrip only shows the alien translations and nothing else), but I can't get them to sync up with the CCE-encoded video. The first one is fine (alien hologram announcing the Loyalists have arrived), but they get 5-10 seconds out of sync later in the movie.

These are ONLY the ifo-VOBs that DVD2SVCD has ripped. Nothing else.
I worked from there, NOT the actual DVD. That might be the secret, for when it comes to difficult rippings, DVD2SVCD's internal ripping routines are the best thing since sliced bread.

I did Region 1, with 2 English audio streams (normal and comments) 3 subtitles (English 1, 2, 3 which are English, Alien and the third being just the names of the people that comment at the time (Lucas, McCallum, etc, appearing briefly on top of the screen ), all in sync.
I just checked it again. What can I say?
Except for the time on the counter bug, for which I can do nothing to correct, and probably the chapter points being a little off (haven't checked those with the actual DVD) everything that REALLY matters is A-OK.
I know how frustrating it may be, but if you are still on the project of backuping this thing, it's not worth the trouble. Wait a little longer and just get a backup copy at a Blockbuster or Hollywood Video sale :)

I have tried AOTC for a long time on several ways, my solution:

I used DVD2DVDR to rip the movie to HD (split into M2V, AC3 and subs, got rid of any anoying angles), let DVD2DVDR fire-up CCE2.50, waited for 1.5hrs and authored via Ifoedit0.95 a new DVD set. Works perfect! Everythings seems to be ok, chapters, subs and all in sync.

In more than 100 movies(dvd and divx) have i experienced such a pain in the a** in ripping a sound track. I even went as far as to start with a fresh install of the os, but still cant import the ac3 file into maestro. I must be missing something so simple that its killing me. I feel like a NEWBIE and its frustrating me. I only want to do the movie only, no extras and i have a 3.9g m2v file awaiting the matching ac3 audio. I might wind up putting out a request for someone to do a file transfer with me if i dont sort it out. In the past i always used either smartripper or dvd2avi to demux my ac3, but as stated earlier i tried vstrip, cladxp, dvddecryptor, and on on on... A few people mentioned to me about using dvd2dvdr but my machine doesnt like that program...probs with the install.

ps...would someone please post what their file size was for the angle1 ac3 6ch english? At least then i would have a better idea if i am close. thanks

mine was 448,000KB give or take a 1,000 or 427MB (whichever one you use!)
I remember my m2v file was around 3.9Gb :D (there's the 3rd file size measurement for you)

have u tried DOITFAST4U?, that does quite a bit for you

squished my movie only onto DVD-R with just main soundtrack at a total of 4474MB

used CCE which gives great results and accurate file size predictions

can you just not use DVD2AVI to extract audio again?

that's all I used for extracting audio, then used CCE for movie

stuck m2v and audio file into DVD maestro, imported chapter times, remembering to create extra one at end cos its missing, then burnt it and plays back lovely

I scratched my original DVD cos my tray closed while I was taking out DVD during backups, but at least I have working copy now as there aren't that many extras on 1st disc. I've seen the outtakes so I'm not that bothered about it now

OK, one last thought on this...if someone feeling very generous would upload to me their ac3 file that they know works i can verify if Maestro is the problem and also finish working on this movie already.

problem almost solved

I have narrowed the problem down to either one of my hard drives or my Raid. I tried what Tantabootsy said to me cause he was having the same problems and by ripping to a hard drive other than the raid the errors with ifoedit and maestro disappeared, and they did for me too. :D

Now i just need to rebuild the raid and see if its a corrupt raid or if its one of the hard drives.

Did you get it to play in your settop player? I followed your instructions and it mine plays on PowerDVD in my computer, but with my settop, it hangs on "A long time ago..." and again 2:37 into the movie. I have a fast forward to get it to move on, then I can hit play and it will work past that. I did strip the angles with DVD decrypter, and stripped angle pointers, but something tells me there is something in the ifo file that needs to be changed. I just don't know what.

First of all can anyone tell me the easiest way to determine if a title has seamless branching in it.. I realize that if the movie has only one PGC in it then it doesn't but is there any better rule of thumb.

I guess more importantly is this question...When do I check the option "Demux by VobID" in DoIt4UFast (which is one of THE BEST progs out there!!!! THANKS for all the hard work!!) I'm guessing that I should have checked it for Episode 2 but I'm just not clear on when it should be used....any insite will be greatly appreciated!!! THX...
