IFOEDIT/VOBEDIT subtitle format

Does anyone know what is the subtitle format used by VOBEDIT/IFOEDIT ?
(the *.sup files). Would it be possible to create a subtitle file
and then incorporate it into a DVD authored with IFOEDIT ?

A Forum search did not reveal any threads along these lines, hence
my posting.

it's a proprietary format and there are no programs capable of creating such files from scratch.

do u mean create a subtitle from scratch???

or rip one from a movie?

coz VOB edit will strip a .sup file from a movie ready for authoring into IFOedit.....just remember to copy subs colours from ifo and paste them into new IFO.

I really meant from scratch.

The reason is I am copying my collection of Star Trek tapes
to DVD and might like to add subtitles - probably more trouble
than it is worth...
