stats file

hello again...this time i have a question about stats files...the way i understand, a stats file is a pass with a bitrate of 6k, in which nandub finds the frames which require more or less bitrate to evenly distribute for best quality when you do the final pass...my question is; once you've made a stats file, can you still use it if you change the bitrate for the final pass to a lower amount (950-902)?, leaving guage, drf, and all other sbc options the same...

That should work very well indeed. The first pass doesn't care about bitrate, DRF or gauge, and I have from time to time redone a second pass changing one (or more) of these parameters compared to the original idea. As long as you don't change the input everything will be OK.

thanks...i've got another question though...if i raise the bitrate, without changing guage/drf will the quality improve significantly, or should i modify the other settings as well
(im talking about more than doubling the bitrate to take filesize from 700-1400)

If I recall correctly the standard gauge settings are 30/35/70, and unless you get oversized file there is no reason to change this really. I don't remember exactly what the standard settings were for drf, but if you set that to 2x-8x for normal frames and 2x-4x for keyframes that should leave you with enugh room for almost any bitrate. Other than that the only parameter that you might want to change is the minimum bitrate used value. I think it is set to 270 as default, and for a high bitrate project (2CD) this is a bit too low. 450 is more appropriate.
