i just download G-knot and was trying to rip some dvds for backup.. everytime i try to encode them i get the same error.

Error: Credits Size is bigger then desired Video Size!
Probably the quality-level you have chosen for credits was too high

i have tried two different movies and have come up with the same exact error.. i have followed the guides exactly and had someone try and help me who uses G-Knot..

hope this is enough information for you to help me. thanx

Welcome.

Your problem may lie in the fact that you didn't set a beginning to where the credits are when you load the .d2v project in the frameserver inside Gordian Knot (lost yet?)

After you rip your DVD to your hard drive, and create a .d2v project file with DVD2AVI, you have to move on to create a script file for encoding it. The first step is to open it with the Frameserver inside Gordian Knot (the box near the bottom of Gordian Knot) and set settings for how to encode your video. You obviously have followed these step by step per the Gordian Knot FAQs for the DivX codec you intend to use ( gknot.doom9.org ). But remember that after you do this, you have to restore the window that you opened your project file (your .d2v file) from the frameserver, set the beginning of the end credits by going to the credits manually, and clicking the 'set end credits start' button. If you don't do this, I think Gordian Knot's encoding doesn't work (internally).

If I didn't answer your question, sorry, but if I did, good :)

If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask, we won't bite :)

We'd know for sure if this was your problem, and not something else, if you were to copy and paste your _Gknot.log file into the thread. The log will show us most of the settings you select, as well as output file sizes. If you hadn't selected a specific credit-start frame, the log would show the credit-start frame as 0.

You might have a different problem ... but we can't tell from your description alone.

Very strange. I found this in your log:8:09:59 PM: Credits Size = -519510Kb Would you do us the favor of examining the credits file? Look for the file "C:\Movies\Rips\Episode 1_1_Credits.avi" -- is it there? How big is it? When you look at the file properties, (right click the file in Windows Explorer, then Properties...Details), does it show a DivX codec? If it's present, can you play it? It should contain the end-credits of your film, without audio. It should be relatively small, and of low quality.

Check to see if DivX is installed properly on your PC. Start Virtual Dub, then select Video....Compression, and see if DivX 5.02 or DivX 5.02 Pro is installed. A common problem with new GKnot users is an incorrect installation of DivX 5, due to installing DivX *before* installing GKnot. However, that problem usually manifests itself differently than this. Still, check to see if DivX is installed.

(GKnot install includes DivX 4. If you install Gknot *after* DivX 5, you will overlay DivX 5 files with DivX 4 files. That usually causes a 0-second Vdub job, which yours wasn't, and produces a 0KB file, which yours apparently wasn't.)

Hey thanx for all your help i found out what was going wrong. After reading the post from jggimi. I went into Virtual Dub and selected Compression. I noticed that Divx 5.02 wasnt there so i reinstalled G-Knot and Divx and Nimo. What i found out is that you have to install Nimo first before G-Knot and Divx 5.02. Before i was installing it after G-Knot and Divx 5.02 and it was messing up Virtual Dub. Thank you for all your help.

*Note

To all People who were encoutering a similar problem to mine try reinstalling everything in this order:

1. Nimo
2. Gordian Knot
3. Divx 5.02 bundle

Thanx again!
