XviD Decoder broken ?

Long time listener, first time caller ;)

I had something strange happening to me recently. I do quite a few xvid conversions and with great results but the last two three releases of the xvid codec from october and november (I think) gives me a strange "halo" effect as I try to play back "older" xvid stuff I have done. I first thought.. oups but then I realized that it only looked strange when I used the new xvid playback filter. If I uninstalled xvid codec all together and only used ffdshow it looks okay.

Anyone knows whats up ?

Were you using NIC's DirectShow standalone filter? You can
get that one from Koepi's site.

No I usually only install the "Latest development (unstable) binary" files and use them. I figured they contained the DS filter. I was wrong ?

I also get dots sometimes when I use lumimasking from 25nov codec. But perhaps that is fixed now ?

Just installed the latest directshow filter now and I get the same weird colors in my old rips when I activate xvid decoder in ffdshow :confused:

If you install a new version of XviD be sure you go into XviD's config screen and press 'load defaults' before you first use it to clean up the registry. That solved all playback problems i had with XviD recently, when the API changed to Dev3.

Didn't help with my problem though. As soon as I use xvid´s own DS filter for playback of my "old" xvid movies (one entire season of friends for instance) the pictures will get really really strange color effects in the picture.

Is there perhaps a way for me to find out what codec I used for those movies ? Thinking perhaps the problem was with the old lumimasking function..

Also checked the old xvid movies at a friends place to make sure it was not something with my computer. It wasn't.

why dont you right click your movie and see when was it created or burned?the date could help you find the xvid build you used

All the ones with problems seems to have been encodec during october with whatever xvid version was out then..

then next step is to find an october build and try to see if your problem is solved.From with a quick look I have :

If you are having color artefacting problems try using reference or xvid idct. Those are available in the miscellaneous section in ffdshow options.

Actually I can't change that option you suggested when I use click the use XviD box for decoding in ffdshow. Only when I uncheck that box can I change the option you suggested.
