Mpeg capture to camcorder

I am going to buy a dv camcorder.the one i have come up with is the sony dcrtrv25 .Many other camcorders have dv in and out and i link . This model has mpeg movie so i can burn straight to svcd. I havnt
seen that stated on other specs .the panasonic nvds30b has nearly all and £150 cheeper but what i want to do as well as using the camcorder is capture from sky digital and write to svcd using th camcorder.Because of the mpeg fascility no conversion needed for burning.I have a plasma screen home cinema system that plays vcd and svcd.I was looking into a capture card to write to svcd.
I believe I can do all of this from the camcorder by connecting it to sky digital.Best price about £670 .any comments about other cameras or about what i want to do much appreciated.

I have yet to see a camcorder that creates SVCD or even DVD compliant MPEG-2. It's much worse: often you'll have a bunch of trouble in getting converted the MPEG-2 from the camcorder into anything usable. If you manage to do it, please tell us. If you search on the forum you'll find that the topic has been discussed before.

For SVCD creation I'd watch out for a progressive scan capable camcorder, because you will want to encode progressive MPEG-2 for SVCDs (much better compression, thus better quality). Unfortunately there aren't many camcorders available having this feature (my Canon MV-3 has it). And you probably won't find that in low-priced camcorders. So you'll have to de-interlace...

Movie mode is limited to 320x240 and to the capacity of your memory stick.
I am not so sure about Frames per second, but I think it is 15!

Yes, I agree. The MPEG capture to memory stick function is a gimmick intended purely for email-quality MPEG files. It is unwise to buy a DV camcorder to record directly to MPEG. Buy it for it's proper purpose and you will not end up being disappointed. The TRV-25 is a good little camera by all accounts. Stay away from the MicroMV sony cameras - beautifully small, but a capture/editing NIGHTMARE! :eek:
