Yes, but it would mean a loss in quality. Why would you want to do this?

pointless really but its very easy to do. just load it into virtuadub, set video processing to fast recrompress and select the divx codec under compression. To maintain highest quality, 2 pass is probably best.

Well, you could change the FourCC from 'XVID' to 'DX50' and it may play fine without any loss of quality. Technically, it's still an XviD encode, but it'll be decoded using the DivX decoder.

Note that this will not always work. Some of XviD features are incompatible with DivX. But give it a try, it's worth a shot.

of course you could do that. why you would want to change it in the first place is beyond me. the xvid decoder is hardly a massive download.

To view an XviD clip all you need is the directshow decoder by NIC (from Koepi's site) and that's a small file.

install ffdshow and all xvid/divx clips will play fine without the need to convert from one to another. Furthermore, I don't need divx codec install in my system unless I need to load the divx clip into vdub for processing or something to that nature.

I am using ffdshow alpha 11.26.2002 to play all divx and xvid without any issue.
