Rempeg problem help please

Does anyone know what causes multiple square blocks to appear called pixelation. This is occuring in Reign of Fire and the last of the mohicans. 95% is fine. Are their any settings i can change.
I use match source and gradient. the other setting are default.
Any help would be appreciated.

This happens to me occaisonally with specific movies. I haven't pinned down exactly what does it but when it does I use Tmpgenc to transcode and use ifoedit to author instead of remuxing.

Actually my last efforts with Tmpgenc were so good I may hang up Rempeg2 altogether.

If you try it, use IFOEdit to get chapter points and generate Tmpgenc template, use DVD2AVI to demux sound streams and create your d2v file, then author new DVD with IFOEdit, mine have all worked quite well using these tools, but my approach is simple, I only back up movies, no menus, no extras.

I think the blocks in some cases are normal. I got some blocks in Titanic and Pearl Harbor at the very first scene where the picture fades in.
I use scaling at 65% so it can fit into a DVD-R disc.
Afterall you're trying to fit a huge movie into a small disc. You got to forgive some blocks now and then ;)

thanks for the input. what version of tmpg and dvd2avi do you use and is their a guide.

The problem with rempg after reading all the posts is that the logo and the movie are different in some way. Rempeg samples the logo and not the movie. If only that could be changed we would be home free.

Hi there

I use ReMpeg2 all the time and I first try to encode the first VOB file only, If the enconde file suffers from pixelation and blockiness
I only encode the last 2 VOBs and not the whole movie.
I read somewhere that this problem is cause by the I frames, so I set the I frames to 120%

I use whatever version of DVD2AVI is currently floating around and TMpegenc v 2.58 I think.

As someone else suggested, you can also just transcode the 2nd through n vob's and get around the problem that way.

I really like ReMpeg2 better because it is so straight-forward. I really don't see the great quality difference between ReMpeg2 & Tmpegenc that others talk about.

I totally agree that rempeg is the best option available to compress movie files.

The big question?

how do you transcode vob`s 2 through n and put it all back together with ifo files so it will play on a standalone dvd player.

Transcode them with ReMpeg2 individually and remux with Rempeg2 individually, then use IFOedit to correct ifo's and change navigation pointers, get VTS sectors and test with DVD player in IFOEdit.

Before you test with DVD player, reboot your computer. If it plays in IFOEdit's player, it will play in a desktop player.

The other way is to create a new set of ifo's for all but the first VOB, then rempeg2 them and use VOBedit to join them with the original VOB #1.

I tried to rempeg each vob and then remux with infoedit. I was not successful. I kept creating a bunch of ifo files.
I`m realy at a loss how to do this. Is their a guide for this,

Yes you can remux each individual vob with Rempeg2, look under tools menu

Use VobEdit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to remux the M2V files back to the VOBs

Then select Remux M2V in the menu
Then you select the M2V file to be remuxued
and finally the destination directory for the new vob

I was able to use vobedit to remux the m2v.

How do I create correct ifo files so I can play the movie in a dvd player

Replace the old VOB with the new one and the open the IFO file with IFO-EDIT, Then press VOBExtras and un check only the last 3 checks and click ok
This ll create the new IFOs and Bups after that copy the VOBs to the same directory of the new IFOs and Voila!!!!!!!

Well I'm not getting anywhere with Titanic and Rempeg :-(
When I play the reencoded/remuxed movie in PowerDVD XP using the .ifo, it goes into a strange loop and stutters along, bringing my 3ghz P4 to a halt. The .m2v file and the remuxed VOBs play fine though! Very odd.

I think it's due to these frames they put at the beginning of the move that throw in some interlaced frames. Rempeg is set to "Match Source" though.

Problem is these messy frames don't have their own VOB ID (checked with VOB Rator), so I'm not sure what can be done to remove them.

I'll try to force progressive in Rempeg but I don't think it will help much!

Unless I'm doing something wrong, this is pretty good copy protection!

PS _ I wonder if it isn't due to some kind of bug in ifoedit v095, because simply recreating .ifo's using these 5 good .vob's produces the same results. I'm trying againg with v091 - no go, just as bad. I must be doing something wrong!

If you're remuxing, are you saving all the extras? If not, then authoring will probably solve your problem.

If you're remuxing, which version of IFOEdit are you using? Try using v .6.

If your m2v file looks good, then the problem probably isn't ReMpeg2.

If you've got loops, maybe you have angle issues or seamless issues you need to resolve first.

The movie last of the mohicans has the problem with interlaced and non interlaced frames.
When i use rempeg on the movie only vobs created by infoedit ver 0.91 or 0.95 I get chapters that are unstable jitter at set intervals. 85% of the movie is fine.

I then used vobsplit 2.6 and removed the beginning portion of the movie. this eliminated the non interlaced portion of the movie.

I reviewed the m2v and where the jittery frames occured I now had (blocks) pixelation their.

I see no way around this problem with the current software available to us.

Thats the reason I have been trying to rempeg vobs 2 through n and leave vob 1 alone.

What I did was Rip/Strip/Rmpeg/Remux (match source/720x480). That usually works well for me. With this version of Titanic the only extra is a trailer, but I'd still like to keep the menu. Anywy, PowerDVD XP plays the video_ts.ifo of the normal and striped movies fine but the one of the remuxed version is completely choppy/slow-mo and maxes out the CPU!

1. I remuxed at first but then I just took the .vob's and created new .ifo's, same result

2. Not authoring with idoedit though!

3. I will, but the menus are rather different

4. Agreed and the remuxed .vobs look ok too!

5. What I ment by "loops" is mor in term of CPU cycles

Sorry for the delay in my response.

I have not tried titanic.

The DVD`s I have tried and failed with have fallen into two categories.

The first is jittery frames in some chapters.

This relates to problems with the studio logo and interlaced vr non-interlaced frames.

Reign of fire
Star war`s episode 2

the second problem

the playback will freeze at random chapter breaks on most DVD players

this problem has me stumped. It always occurs at the same place and its not related to the infoedit version I use.

I am using infoedit to make movie only backups and rempeg if necessary to fit the movie on one dvd.

I have the same problem with bad company and reign of fire. No random freezing if I split the movie to 2 discs. I suspect it has to do with ReMpeg2 or remuxing but so far I still haven't been able to solve the problem either. I tried different ways, including ReMpeg and then remuxing the entire movie vs. some vob's.

In your attempts with Last of the Mohicans & Bad Company, are you dealing with NTSC or PAL?

I recently did both of those with Rempeg2 and had no problems at all but all my DVDs are NTSC.

I did recently have a problem with Mystery, Alaska where the first cell in the no. 1 VOB was fine but had pixelation on the rest of the stream.

The way I solved it was to split the movie to two DVDs with ifoedit at the end of the first cell and then transcoded them seperately. I then authored them with ifoedit and reassembled them and it came out perfectly.

The only settings I change on Rempeg2 are the picture size to 720 X 480, I turn off the two calculations that only eat up processor time and I change 'I' allocations to 115% and the second one to 105% and leave the third alone. I then set the percentage of compression based on the simple formula of 4.3 divided by the size of the movie vob's and let it rip.

All other settings I leave at their defaults.

I never save menus or any extras, all I want is the movie to play when I put the disc in the player.

I have tried this quit a few times and get shaking in most chapters.
When I strip out the logo I get pixelation in some dark chapters.
I can`t figure this one out.
Do you strip to movie only with infoedit 095 then rempeg.

Any help would be appreciated.

also how do you turn off calculations in rempeg.

Yes, I always strip to movie only with ifoedit before transcoding.

Turn off the calculations by unchecking [calculate PSNR] & [show RC info].

I always leave search technique set for [prediction] and [half pel] checked. I also leave [integer DCT] checked.

You didn't say whether you are dealing with PAL or NTSC.
