hey,

since i am using divX 5.2 my movies always become oversized. i didnt have that problem with divX 4 or 5.1... even if i use calculate average bitrate to find out the bitrate and then swap to calculate avi file size and decrease the bitrate manualy by 20 or even 50 my avi file still is most likeley to be 703 to 710 megs big.

any ideas why this happens guys? help would be much appreciated

I'm not sure whether I can help you as I'm still using DivX 5.0.2, not 5.2 (where did you get the update? :D ).

Seriously: You need to post your DivX settings, else the problem will remain in the dark.

well, divx 5.02 lol... wonder how i thought of 5.2 hehe...

which settings do you mean? i use calculate average bitrate, crop the black borders, adjust the resolution that the bits(pixel*frame) value is something like 0.20 to 0.30 and encode using neutral bicubic.

this did work very well with divx 4 and 5.01 (:)) but since 5.02 the file is most likely to big.

I guess these are settings from Gordian Knot. Hmm, it was probably better you to post in Gordian Knot forum, but...
There is a log file named movie_GKnot.log. You may try to look in it to check how the encoding procedure went. Or may be post it here...

When I read oversized, I thought 50MB, 100MB, but you're wondering about up to 10MB? this is quite normal, due to AVI overhead.
Just calculate the bitrate depending on a size of 690MB, and your AVI will get definitely a size between 690 and 700MB (unless already saturated of course)

Yeah, but GKnot already takes avi overhead in consideration. In 95 % of all the cases I reach the exact filesize I want. And the other 5 % are undersized, not oversized.

That why there is a drop down option for 695 MB CD's.

I haven't heard of a 695 MB CD, have you? :p
This helps alot with those few movies that are always 5~10 megs oversized.

OH and btw I hope your not looking at how much hard drive space it's taking up, Windows XP shows you how much room is being taken up on the hard drive and not how big the file actually is.

Well, unless you're using clusters that are several MB's big, they are likely to be the same within a few KB. ;)

Though perhaps he is confusing bytes and Megabytes (and perhaps that is what you meant?). A CD will take ~701 MB, but it will also take ~718 000 000 bytes.

Well then I guess my clusters are lager, because there is a difference of around 20MB. When I do a detailed display it shows one file being 728MB, but when I do a rightclick it says the file is 700MB. That's what i was talking about.

700 MB = 716,800 KB = 734,003,200 B

1 KB = 1,024 B
1 MB = 1,024 KB = 1,048,576 B

(Unless you sell hard drives. Then, 1 MB = 1,000,000 B)
