i bought that drive today and i was tryind to record a dvd but i keep on getting an error message and i can't record the message is something like:
i/o error!
device:[1:0:0] HP DVD Writer 200j (g: ) not a typo here, it really says 200J instead of 200i.
also...
scsistatus: 0x02
interpretation: check condition
cdb: 2A 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 20 00
interpretation: write (10)- sectors: 0-31
sense area: 70 00 05 00 00 00 00 0C 00 00 00 00 30 10
interpretation: medium not formated.
i really don't know what to do. my current version of nero can't detect the recorder...

Format the disc.
Right click on the source drive selection box and click 'Format -> Full'.

by the way... can the HP 200i record DVD-R? or can it just record DVD+R ???

The hp200i is a dvd+r/rw drive only.

but thats ok, i just came back from the store where i got it.
i now have a sony DRU-500A it writes dvd-r @ 4x and cd-r @ 24x
it is also compatible with DVD+R and DVD-R !!!!
that's right, i'm not mistaken.

It doesnt matter that the disc is brand new. You MUST format dvd+rw before you can use them.

then why did it work using HP software???
does the proggy "record now" format the disk be4 writing??

i'm getting this error when starting dvd decrypter...
also... i screwed 1 dvd with it. done image with it and burnt
since i couldn't do the image with the writer i used my good'ol 116
then burnt the image, but now the dvd is now recognizible on the writer nor on the standalone. but it does work on my 116!!!
what can that be...??

and no!! it's not a mistake, i returned my hp-200i and got this sony!!! (no questions asked) :D
