With reference to the DVD-9 to DVD-5 guide can someone please explain the following sentences which are highlighted in BOLD.
"DO NOT copy over the authored IFO file! DO NOT copy over the VTS_01_0.VOB file! Remove all the original VOB files (You MUST leave the IFO file and the VTS_02_0.VOB files!) and copy over the new ones in their places."
I just don't get it.

It was made in reference to the title being worked on. Taking them out of context won't make sense. You need to make sure you understand what is meant by authored and original files. The IFO file is what holds all the command information for the set. Therefore, you DON'T overwrite this original file. The underscore ( _ ) "0" VOB file holds menu information so you DON'T want to overwrite this file either. All the other files in the given VTS set contain the movie that you just reauthored so those are the ones that get replaced.

thats what I thought I was doing, maybe you can shed some light on where I'm going wrong. I'm working on Monsters Inc. The main movie files are VTS_09_XX.VOB. When I reauthored I got VTS_01_XX.VOB files. I renamed the files to VTS_09_XX.VOB and copied over the original movie VOB files, I did not rename the authored VTS_01_0.VOB menu file. I also left the original VTS_09_0.VOB menu file and the original VTS_09_0.IFO information file. I then followed the instructions using IFOUpdate using the latest version of the software. The problem is when I try playing the film in IFOEdit it just wont play, nothing happens. The status simply shows stopped, and no matter what I try I can't get the film to play . Any idea on where I am going wrong? Many thanks.
