View Full Version : Creation of xVCD yielded more than one CD in VBR

I report this, because I don't see the reason why the result came about. Perhaps it is a bug, perhaps it is a goof on my side. I wanted to create a xVCD with variable bitrate (just for curiosity, what it would look like). It should have been on a single CD, but it wasn't. The PC playback of the mpg file does stutter a little too. Here is the log:

I found this out the hard way myself.
When making a Xvcd you need to manually adjust the forced mux rate in BBmpeg or you get overflows and tons of them.

I use only CBR when making my XVCD's so as long as I stay in at the same bitrates I don't have to worry about changing it each time.

If you get overflows your file size can balloon and then it forces another disc.

Try starting over from Muxing and cutting and this time watch BBmpeg for overflow errors. If you get any then stop the muxing, raise the force mux rate and keep doing that until you get to were you don't get any errors. I found that the automatic setting is unreliable with Xvcd's.

Thanks a lot. I give it a try. I wasn't impressed by the video quality, so I might just CDRW the result, in order to dismiss it.

Your reasoning seems dead on, the mpv file seems well in bound.
Perhaps I give it another run with Tmpgenc and some of these "special" matrix/settings.
