View Full Version : Scenarist Max Bitrate?

I know there's been quite a few posts about max bitrate and I've tried to dig up as much as I can by searching, but there are still things that confuse me. First of all, if the maximum video bitrate is 9.8Mbps, doesn't that mean it should be 10035Kbps? I guess not, since Scenarist requires a max video bitrate of 9800Kbps. However, that's not my main problem...

I've read that the absolute total bitrate is 10.08Mbps. If we're following the same system, that's 10080Kbps. So, I made a video file with a max bitrate of 9800Kbps and put it in a track in Scenarist. The video file was accepted with no problems. Then I added 6 audio tracks to it go along with the video. When I click "Verify Track", I'm told that the combined bitrate is 11976Kbps and is too high. That's fine, since it's above 10080Kbps. But, if I go ahead have Scenarist make the VOBs away, I get no errors at all. The VOBs play fine in PowerDVD XP, but I haven't tried them in a standalone yet. Can someone please tell me what I'm missing?

Thanks!

Hmmm interesting point. Perhaps this harks back to the old "MiniDVD" rotational velocity issue, since capacity is not ultra-critical on DVD-9s (for example).

Presumably some standalones might have transports (drives) that go barely above 1x speed, in which case there would be a limit to how much data could be passed over the laser per second.

This is only speculation though! Perhaps somebody else has a definitive answer.

I suppose, at the end of the day, they always have to draw a line in the sand somewhere, when it comes to setting standards, even though 2nd, 3rd, or 4th generation equipment may have capabilities which far exceed these minimum specs.

I did some tests, and it seems like 9800Kbps is the limit for both video alone and the combined total in Scenarist. Using my 9800Kbps video file, I added a 32Kbps audio track that was accepted. After running Verfiy Track, I was told that 9832Kbps is too high. So, it seems (at least for Scenarist), as much as people say that 10.08 is THE limit, it doesn't seem to be correct. Tell me I'm wrong, please... ;)
