What's you guys opinion on the best DVDrom to rip DVD's for SVCD?
I have a no-name 16x's made in China, but it's way slow.
Any feed-back would greatly be appreciated.

Um, a dvdrom is a dvdrom... There is no best to rip a dvd. Are you sure it's in DMA mode, not PIO mode? This will make a huge difference on speed.

some drives are looked to a slow speed with css encrypted dvds.
look here for a table of ripping speeds for some drives:

I've got a Pioneer A05 DVD ROM drive and its excellent for ripping movies. Takes about 4-8 mins for a full rip of a movie. Even quicker sometimes!
I bought the higher A06 model a while back which has UDMA-66 support but found it still played second fiddle to the AO5, so i stuck with the A05.
They dont make the A05 anymore, but they do make the A06 (106 OEM model). Still a very good drive!

This is the sort of thing I'm looking for but that table only mentions quoted speed not css ripping speed which we're more interested in.

if its limited you should see something like that:
5x/CAV 8x/CAV 12x/CAV 16x/CAV
CSS: 5x/CAV
look at the faster toshiba drives for example.
