Recently, I encoded my Steel Angel Kurumi disc to OGM container and because of the multicolor subtitles and at various areas of the screen. I used vobsub sub/idx as seperate files. (I'm not sure what version I encoded with, but the date on the installer is Wednesday, October 16, 2002, 3:43:50 AM and it's Nic's build.) Once I was done, I let someone have a copy of the episodes and he downloaded the latest XviD build from Nic's site. Low and behold, the subtitles wouldn't show up with vobsub directsub. He was complaining about it, saying it was XviD and it being a crappy codec. (I like it, but so many people seem to hate it. Usually their problem lays withing installing too much other crap.) Unfortunately, this time, he had a valid point. I downloaded the latest version of XviD and tried playing my ogm files. They didn't work. I think tried to reinstall the older version. This didn't work either. What I was forced to do, was uninstall, reboot and delete the xvid.ax file from system32. Then reinstall the older version and it worked again. I had him do the same and gave him the older installer I had on my computer. All works now.
So I was wondering if this is a bug or some sort of directshow conflict between xvid and vobsub.
I use no post processing, I always use xvid to decode the video. (Can't stand DivX and it gives me the smearing effect sometimes. It also causes a no start where I have to seek to get it going.) I always pay attention to what I install. In all ways, it should work.
So if anyone can give me insight, I would love to know why it wouldn't work. Thanks! :D
