Awry hdd

Today on my PC I saw the dialogue box ."your harddrive is out of space (something to that effect) while I was downloading a 500 mb fileinspite of the fact that in Windows Explorer there was 1 gb of free space. Any idea? Thanks in advance :)

What OS are you running? What format is the drive? How large are your paging files?

I'm running windows 98 se. The drive is fat32 (western digital 30 gb).

"How large are your paging files?"

How would I find this?

I don't have a copy of w98 to check on, but in w2k, I right click on my computer, go to properties/advanced/performace options and it's in there.

I can't seem to find it. The drive is using ms compatibility mode. Any idea what is causing this problem? Thanks :)
