Posted about this crash a while ago, dunno if you still remember though. Basicly everything seems to run fine until it starts creating images with VCDXBuild
It doesn't just crash, the HDD light becomes locked on and nothing responds. It is possible to run the crash recovery, no problems, and the images will create fine.
The main problem is its bloody random, I have tried encoding the same film twice - one time it will crash on the first image, the next time it run thru fine
It doesn't just happen on the first image either - it can be 1st, 2nd or 3rd. Help! This is really p*ssing me off! Oh and I have a Western Digital WD600BB HDD if it helps. WinXP SP1, P4 2GHz, 512MB DDR

Now I'm fairly ceryain you're going to look at this log and go "Hmm, nothing wrong with that" so what the hell's going on. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling DVD2SVCD - no difference. I have also been running every new version in the last 2 months (have just downloaded 1b update)

Thanks in advance,

Ian Birch

Come on, someone else must have has this problem! - I'm sure my HDD is fine, it never crashes on anything else

I think you're saying it gets this far and then just goes no further. If it is then that is exactly what was happening to me.
I found I had the problem when I changed to Build 3 1a. But after installing the latest 1c version and hitting the recovery button VCDXBuild finally continued to completion and I had my bin/cue files.
Hope this helps.

I have a similar problem, except that it is ALWAYS present. I'm on an TBird1.2, ASUS A7V133 with a VIA chipset. The other big variable is that I'm running .NETServer as the OS.

Could this be a VIA chipset issue? I am using the 1a release, but did a fall-back to the older 3b release with the same problem. The exact same version of DVD2SVCD runs ok on a P4 with ECS MB/SIS Chipset and Win XP.

Well I'm on WinXP SP1, with an Abit Intel 845G chipset, P4 2GHz and have has this problem since I started using DVD2SVCD - was on 1.0.9 b1 then i think.
Has the version of VCDXBuild always been the same since then? Cos if you go the site for VCDXBuild it says "unstable version" for the one bundled with DVD2SVCD.
Does this mean anything?

Any help or replies much appreciated

Cheers.

Usually when VCDXbuild croaks it's because something before it has created a problem that it does not know how to handle.
Make sure you can play the BBmpeg_muxed_file??.mpg files in WinDVD or PowerDVD and they seem to play perfect.
Also check the file sizes to make sure they are not huge or strangle small.

Make sure you have not changed any of the software used in the DVD2SVCD bundle. Do not use another version of VCDXbuild, BBmpeg or any other then the versions included.

For those of you running RAID run large scale copies to make sure files are not getting corrupted.

You may also want to use VCDEasy's mpeg checker to make sure the mpg's are not corrupted.

There is also the vcxbuilder.log - maybe have a look at it what vcdxbuild last does before it crashes.
