keep menu & movie only?.....

When i strip the extra stuff from a movie, how do i keep the original menu? One thing i have noticed about my home dvd player is that it will play my dvd-r movie backups of a DVD5 movie and will not play backups of DVD9 but will play other peoples dvd players. I'm thinking my player is looking for a menu and thats why it wont play any DVD9 backups.
So i need to figure out how to keep the original menu and the movie only. thanks

Ok thats a very good guide. After adding the menu VTS files it ends up being about 5.2gigs. When i play it there are alot of preview stuff of other movies. Can that be deleted? maybe i can squeeze it in then.

Start IfoEdit. Open the VIDEO_TS.IFO file. Press DVDPlay button.
See all the FBI warnings and when it comes to the main menu, play the movie for a minute or two. Exit.
A window appear and tell you which vobs played. Those vobs you need to rip (plus the main movie).

Here you'll have the movie and the menu (and the chapters but not the extras)

You'll probably find that those previews are in another title set, other than the movie's, so you can jump over them using commands.

I found out that titleset 2(VTS_02) and 9(VTS_09) are the junk stuff. I did run VOBextras on those but started locking up on me. Im trying to figure which VOBid's i need. When i open VIDEO_TS it says the IDs 1-7 are being used, so i need to make to include all of those?

If you're looking in the VIDEO_TS.IFO and the actual VOB-IDs referred to by this file then these actually refer to the VOB-IDs in VIDEO_TS.VOB.

What you're looking for is the 'First Play PGC' under 'VMGM_MAT' in VIDEO_TS.IFO. In there is what is played first. But because you found that junk stuff in titlesets 2 and 9 there will probably be 'Jump' commands that will eventually play these titlesets. So in there (save a backup) edit the 'Jump' command to jump to your movie under the right title. This will skip the previews and then you'll be able to delete those titlesets.

After ripping the files to my HD, i used ifoedit to strip the extra audio/subtitles of VTS_01_1.vob thru VTS_01_6.vob. When i do this do i check 'strip vobid'? After it was done stripping to a new folder i added the original VIDEO_TS.ifo/.bup.vob, vts_01_0.ifo/.bup/.vob, Vts_02_0.ifo/.bup/.vob and vts_06_0.ifo/.bup/.vob files. VTS_02 and VTS_06 contain the trailers and other junk. Opened VTS_02 and found the trailers and hit Delete Playback. Opened VTS_06 and found the other trailers and hit Delete Playback. Finally i corrected VTS sectors and saved. But somehow it still plays the trailers and then gets to the menu and shows "illegal nav. error"

why you copy the original VTS_01_1.IFO back?
Let IfoEdit to create new one for you. And don't bother to copy the VTS_01_0.VOB because it also contains trailers. You don't need it.

I didnt copy the original VTS_01_1 back, i copied the orginal VTS_01_0.ifo/bup/vob back to the new folder aloong with the original VTS_2_0.ifo/bup/vob and VTS_06_0.ifo/bup/vob.

If you follow the guide in my previous reply it shows you how to jump those trailers so they are not called for. When you have done that you can then delete them.

Hellow InfoEdit freaks.
I'm new in the turf. I have observed this forum for a while now.
The duplication of Dvd's to DVD-R too. So I been in the practice for about 4 years now. Info edit was and still is the best software put together to do this. I have made over 100's of dvd-r movies with&without menus. the trick is in your burning software options.
and what vobs U copy in addition to the ones infoedit already has stripped or created new info vts. overall take consideration that some DVD player will not be compatible with your DVD-r media and also burners & softwares.;)

sometimes adiing all the first vts helps if you want to copy the original menu example:
your movie is on VTS_1_1.vob and so on most of the time the dvd menu is on VTS_1_0.vob copy this file if u chose Auto copy menu files on Info edit and the rest of the extra VTS_xxx.vobs to your final directory. but remember only to copy the VTS_X_x.ifo's also VTS_X_X.bup and the first coresponding VTS_X_0.Vov files ONLY this are really small and contains most of the menu settings.usually your movie takes about 4.2 gigs and menu another 150-200 mb this will give your dvd-r the original menu + settings.

I highly recomend that u know how to use ifoedit ver 0.95 to do this with menu and stripped all the languages and streams u don't need before doing anything and don't select create new info file when stripping with the vob extra option. and last dont forget the Get VTS SECTOR button. verry important too.

To burn I usee prassi primo DVD2.0 go to the option buttom and uncheck the box that says: Recognize,check and format Video_TS and Audio_TS as per DVD specification. if you do this The software will allow you to burn the Movie. If you din't do the Burner software thing u will get an erro message.

I assure this will work on any DVD standalone in your home.
