Cutting an Mpeg plz help

Hi all,


I made a SVCD with DVD2SVCD it split it into 3 files of 794 megs ( not a problem to burn i have 99 min Discs) but one of the mpegs has about 40 min extras (that are not that great) and 40 min of previews, that frankly i dont want in there. I am trying to cut the last section of the file out (the section with all the parts i dont want) but TMPGEnc keeps freezing.

Has anyone had this problem before if so how did you fix it and if there is not fix then is there another program that i can use ? i cant seem to find anything that says CUTs Mpegs in the download section.

I have used tmpgenc plus 2.58.44.152 mpeg tools to cut and splice mpeg2 files but now i found it hangs. I am running Win 2000.

The software support from Tmpgenc is extremely poor. I have emailed them on 3 ocassions with no reply.

It makes me wonder if it is even worth buying this product when it doesnt work.

All I can hope is that the programmers will fix this in a future release.

I have downloaded this package except it didnt handle my SVCD file. It doesnt have the same screen preview as TMPGENC Plus so that you know what you are editing.

The other program that is "claimed" to produce SVCD compliant files is MPEG2VCR 3.13. I have tested 3.11 and it doesn't work. I have read that 3.13 is able to cut and edit SVCD but I havent tested it.

I am using Nero to burn SVCD.

If anyone else has suggestions on software to edit SVCD it would be appreciated.

I Always cut my Mpeg-2 movies in TEMPGEnc. No problems...
And I also tried Mpegtool, and it works.
You must have other problems? Have you been able to cut
mpegs earlier with TEMPGEnc?

WThanks for your comments. What version of tmpgenc are you using? and what is your operating system

This may help us to narrow down exactly where the problem is coming from.

If you are using mpegtool how can you see the scene changes given it is only time based and has no preview screen? I guess its ok if you dont care where you are cutting.

After you have edited your mpeg2 file what software and version are you using to cut it to cd?

I'm using 2.54.37.135. And Windows XP Home edition.
I had the same problems as you described,cutting SVCD's. With another (Earlier) version of TEMPGEnc. It freezze, cutting part two.
So i thought that the newer versions handles SVCD better then the older ones?
Have you been able to cut any SVCD's?
Have you selected right source?
Did you press Play, and then Pause when you opened the file?
To prevent it to freeze.

Are you using the Plus Version of Tmpgenc or the freeware version ?

I have been able to edit svcd previously with tmpgenc plus then it stopped working for no reason (It could be to do with the newer version of Plus).

When editing svcd with tmpgenc I have never separately installed an mpeg2 codec as described in the vcdhelp web site.

I noticed in the Vcdhelp notes that other have also experienced problems with Tmpgenc.

I am currently assessing other editing programs (with a preview Window) that provide similar features to Tmpgenc Plus. MyFlix XE looks promising except their price seems a bit high for my liking.

I purchased MyFlix XE and it works great (when it works). Problem is that VBR is not *guaranteed* but works almost always for me. The price tag is a bit hefty for what it does but it has an edit list feature which is quite a bit nicer than TMPGenc's (which, admittedly, is a freebie in TMPGenc).

How to Create SVCD with Honestech Mpeg Editor 4.0

1. My source is an SVCD PAL (mpeg2) file captured from a VHS source.

2. I use Tmpgenc Plus to crop the movie (mpeg2) file to get rid of the ragged borders and retouch the colour if necessary.

3. I found with SVCD NTSC (480x480 29.95fps files I can get about 38 minutes of video on a 80min or 700Mb CD. Using Honestech Mpeg Editor I edit the file until I get an output file of 38 mins. The file size before recording is just under 800Mb

4. I use Nero 5.10 with mpeg2 plugin to create the SVCD. Whilst Honestech doesn't seem to produce a Nero SVCD compliant stream, I tell Nero to go ahead and reencode to a compliant stream. The MpegII file created by Honestech Mpeg Editor was 480x490 29.97 fps 2520000 bit/s Layer II audio 224 kbs 44.1KHz sampling.

5. I burn at 4x (as I tend to get less errors).

I hope this helps all those of you who are struggling to get make SVCDs.

2. Operating system
3. Codecs installed and where I can download them from
4. How you created the SVCD
5. What software you are using to burn SVCD.
6. DVD player installed on your PC

Ive got the same problems

All SVCDs created with DVD2SVCD will freeze as soon as I hit edit in the merge and cut tab ...

Try demuxing first perhaps...

Otherwise here's what I do.
