Garbled XviD playback

I'm trying to watch a vid encoded in XviD.

The problem is, the vid is completely garbled when I try to play it back. It looks like the previous frame isn't being removed, and the new frame is bleeding through the old frame. It goes back and forth between looking ok for a few frames to being completely garbled.

I'm running winxp (thus media player 7). I installed the nemo 5.0.8 pack, and the latest divx 5.0 bundle (in that order) originally, and it wouldn't play the xvid. It was my understanding divx5 should be able to decode it.

So I ended up downloading and installing the lastest version of ffdshow.exe, and installing it. Still looks the exact same, and I'm unable to open the movie for playback in divx5's ThaPlaya.

I searched around for any info on correcting this problem, but was unable to find anything.

Any help is appreciated.

I don't know for _what_ you searched, but this is a known phenomenon of the current xvid decoding routines when using GMC/and/or/qpel-with-bframes.

Go to ffdshow setup, and make sure that in "codecs" you let decode it xvid (checked) , not using xvid (so the boix to the right of that: unchecked).

If you're saying I should go to the Supported Codecs area of the config, check XVID and uncheck the DIVX3/4/5 options, I have.

It didn't change anything.

No.

It just says supported codecs, and lists xvid, divx3, divx4, divx5, mp43, mp42, h.263+

I thought it was the newest version, althought I didn't download it off teh sourceforge page.

That was a mistake on my part. Going to download the newest version from there now and install it.


Edit: Gah. That solved my problem. *smacks head*

I thought I was downloading the newest version of the codec, thus I didn't think that was the problem.
