Subtitles in AVI "DIVX"

How can i put the subtitles in a Avi? i whould like to have just one file AVI+SUBTITLES all in one. Is there any software able to do it??

Sorry for bad news, dude, but AFAIK avi file format does not support custom/multiple/additional streams, like you can have into vob files on DVD, so, there is probably no way, how to put pubtitles inside the avi file.

Tought, whats the hell problem with external ascii files containing subtitles and timecode?

Everyone can tweak, fix and edit then, and because they are externam, everyone can set their visual aperance during playback, so - in fact, i see many reasons why its best, that they are external.

Busides, native english guys sure dont need subtitles :p ;) :D

And BSPlayer, for example, allow you to automaticaly load the subs, when there are into same directory as movie and named same as the movie, except for the *.txt/*.sub end... so, what is the problem?

I have a dvd burner and i want to place the subtitles in divx and then make a *.mpg2 to be loaded in a stand alone dvd player...

No no, you dont need / want to place the subs into avi file.

All you then need is a build new stream, what containing nothing more but subs (just like these are normaly on DVDs) and then encode both into the mp2 stram file and burn the result on DVD.

Im sure someone with burnign DVD experience can help you, or even a manual for DVD burnign software sure can be helpfull there ;) :)

I don tried that. I usually byingmy DVDs for their superior (og. much higger that DivX crap) picture quality - when they are played non-scalled ;) :D :cool:

DAvenger, can you imagine you get a DivX rip, with englich CC (closed captions), full of errors and misspeling and such?

In fact, im terrified even from the hardcoded (encoded into the stream) DVD subtitles :mad: :mad: :mad:

Just take as example the U-571 movie. The german talking are partly (not all of it) converted to sadly directly encoded subtitles into the movie... DAMN!!! :mad:

If they have a piece of mind, they can add just subs stream and force it enabled. With special software (DVDsubber) you then can disable it, and enjoy czech/slovak subtitles W/O the crap on screen...

For avi, there is not solution, since the format is limited, but... still... its a nightmare!

Actually you can put SSA subtitles into Avi files with Submux in the Vobsub package.. and then play them back using the DirectVobsub Directshow filter. But that still is beside your problem of putting them onto a DVD.

VOB subs always come as external few MB DVD rip...

Actually YES they will be stored in the AVI but you have to OCR the Vob subs into a Textbased Subtitle format SSA and then you can mux them INTO the avi and have them show during playback.

Technically, it is no problem to extract the stream, fix it and put it back ... ;)

DAvenger - teory sometimes suxx like hell, i would prefer having an CLEAN Video and audio ans ubtitles as external file...

Well, i never ever try this, but just for being know... ;)

Trodas - Just download vobsub from http://vobsub.edensrising.com and after you get the idx/sub file open SubResync and open your idx/sub files and then Save them as ssa. it will do an OCR process on the file.. Then start SubMux also included with the vobsub package and drag and drop your avi,ssa,wav file into Submux and select your destination to save it and mux it all together.. Or you can use Graphedit if you wished to do it yourself. (But can't remember the filter name exactly, i think its Subtitle Muxer) and then just play it back with DVobsub installed and it will show your subs.. No need for external subs..
