This has got me stumped. My last re-authoring was StarWars I and it went perfectly. Now I want to do Aliens.
My method:
Rip
Strip
Re-encode with TMPG
Author

The simplest prog I have is DVDcomplete which I did starwars on and has been great so far. I fed in my MPG which it took, but froze at the menu generation stage, or when I tested w/o menu, gave me a cannot bulid DVD error.

DVDit PE went well enough except it maddeningly tells me my disk is too big when I know it's not.

Only Videopack 5 made an image, but 1 major failing of this prog is that it only does disk images and you can't preview before you burn.

I even went as far as to borrow Scenarist but forgot to write the damn license and I can't afford my own anyway.

I've also backed up successfully with rempg but I don't like the quality.

Any ideas as to what might be wrong?

HI
why dont you try DVD workshop, apart from chapter stuff it is straight forward and has worked for a non techy like me, also if you have any file sharing tool installed try searching for what your looking for, this would give you the chance to evaluate the products,

That's a Ulead prog isn't it? I've heard good stuff about it, and will give it a shot.

I've narrowed down the problem to a bad GOP header but I can't seem to figure out why this is happening or how to correct it.

I've tried re-doing dvd2avi, re-encoding with tmpg plus about a dozen times at least, even using the templates.

DVDcomplete which I do like, for some reason, sees this file as a non dvd compliant mpeg and will reencode it. The result though is jerky, out of synch and 6.27GB long.

as I write, I'm experimenting with an analog capture from an old video of this flick just to see if I get the same errors.

Anyway, thanks, I'll try using your prog, but I'd still like to know why & how this is happening.

Hi
as a newbie to this forum, i have done some tmpeg and other processing, first i would suggest you writing each step down as you do it,now i assume your using dvd2avi because you do not have the disc space, if it is ripped with smart ripper just load the d2v file into it, or using t mpeg use demux the tracks, and process seperately, after processing use dvd workshop to image and burn your file, also i try to use Nero and ifoedit to check my files before any imaging or burning,
