Ok, i am trying to do a backup of my wifes Friends Season 2 dvds. She plays hell on anything that is in disk format (you should see the audio cds in her car) and being these thing arent cheap i dont want her to mess up the orginals.

I am trying to backup the dvds to a dvdr and preserve the orginal menu. I have read the ifoedit/CCE guide and the DVD extras in CCE guides. And i think i have a pretty good understanding of what i am doing. This is where i am right now. I have ripped the episode VOBs and the Video_TS.vob and their repective ifos. Now i opened the ifo for the episode vobs. It shows there are 6 vob ids. So i used vobrator to see what each vobid is and they are as follows

vobid 1 = black screen
vobid 2 = EP-1
vobid 3 = EP-2
vobid 4 = EP-3
vobid 5 = EP-4
vobid 6 = EP-5

Now here is where i start to get lost on how to handle this. The IFO tells me there are 8 PGC's in this Title set.

PGC_1 (program chain): [Title(TTN): 1] [00:22:37.01 / 30 fps] (Programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 2)
[Ch 01] [Pg 01] [Cell 01] [V/C Id: 2/ 1] : time: 00:22:37.01 / 30 fps [Pos: 00:22:37.01] [Frames: 40711]

PGC_2 (program chain): [Title(TTN): 2] [00:23:39.01 / 30 fps] (Programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 3)
[Ch 01] [Pg 01] [Cell 01] [V/C Id: 3/ 1] : time: 00:23:39.01 / 30 fps [Pos: 00:23:39.01] [Frames: 42571]

PGC_3 (program chain): [Title(TTN): 3] [00:22:48.01 / 30 fps] (Programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 4)
[Ch 01] [Pg 01] [Cell 01] [V/C Id: 4/ 1] : time: 00:22:48.01 / 30 fps [Pos: 00:22:48.01] [Frames: 41041]

PGC_4 (program chain): [Title(TTN): 4] [00:22:56.01 / 30 fps] (Programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 5)
[Ch 01] [Pg 01] [Cell 01] [V/C Id: 5/ 1] : time: 00:22:56.01 / 30 fps [Pos: 00:22:56.01] [Frames: 41281]

PGC_5 (program chain): [Title(TTN): 5] [00:23:35.01 / 30 fps] (Programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 6)
[Ch 01] [Pg 01] [Cell 01] [V/C Id: 6/ 1] : time: 00:23:35.01 / 30 fps [Pos: 00:23:35.01] [Frames: 42451]

PGC_6 (program chain): [Title(TTN): 6] [01:55:35.05 / 30 fps] (Programs: 5) (Cells: 5) (uses VOB-IDs: 2,3,4,5,6)
[Ch 01] [Pg 01] [Cell 01] [V/C Id: 2/ 1] : time: 00:22:37.01 / 30 fps [Pos: 00:22:37.01] [Frames: 40711]
[Ch 02] [Pg 02] [Cell 02] [V/C Id: 3/ 1] Layer Br.: time: 00:23:39.01 / 30 fps [Pos: 00:46:16.02] [Frames: 83282]
[Ch 03] [Pg 03] [Cell 03] [V/C Id: 4/ 1] Layer Br.: time: 00:22:48.01 / 30 fps [Pos: 01:09:04.03] [Frames: 124323]

[Ch 05] [Pg 05] [Cell 05] [V/C Id: 6/ 1] Layer Br.: time: 00:23:35.01 / 30 fps [Pos: 01:55:35.05] [Frames: 208055]

PGC_7 (program chain): [Title(TTN): 7] [00:00:01.16 / 30 fps] (Programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 1)
[Ch 01] [Pg 01] [Cell 01] [V/C Id: 1/ 1] : time: 00:00:01.16 / 30 fps [Pos: 00:00:01.16] [Frames: 46]

PGC_8 (program chain): [Title(TTN): 8] [00:00:01.16 / 30 fps] (Programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 1)
[Ch 01] [Pg 01] [Cell 01] [V/C Id: 1/ 1] : time: 00:00:01.16 / 30 fps [Pos: 00:00:01.16] [Frames: 46]

Now here i dont know what to do to rebuild this thing. Do i rip out the vobid's and encode those? Do i rip out the PGC's and encode those? If i choose the PGC's, do i just do the first 5? My inital thoughts are that i should somehow rip out the vobid's, encode those to my desired settings, and rebuild the Title Set with the new VOBids. But i have no idea how i would do this. I havent seen anything that explains this.

Help me please before my wife (being the friends nut that she is) destroys my nice shiny retail DVD's :)

thanks in advance

some more thoughts. I understand that PGC 6 is nothing but a set of commands that instructs the dvdplayer to play vobids 2-6 in order. It isnt more actual data on the disk. This is where i get lost on trying to use the rip the PGC method. The only data i really need to encode is in the First 5 PGC's. So if i do it that way, how do i go about rebuilding the PGC's with the newly encoded data?

btw, i have reeldvd, spruceup, nero, prassi all at my disposal to use.

Always love replying to my own threads :)... Anyway, here is something i came up with. Hopefully this will work.

1. Extract PGCs 1,2,3,4,5,8 with smartripper. This will essentially give me the 6 vob-ids i am looking for.
2. Encode each of the PGCs that i extracted with CCE.
3. Remux each PGC back to a VOB.
4. Rename the vobs to vts_01_001, vts_01_002, and so on in the order taht they appeared in the orginal vobs.
5. Replace orginal vobs with new vobs.
6. Open up ifoedit, Get VTS
7. Test to see if it works.

Anyone see anything wrong with this process?

Any other thoughts will be appreciated :)

thanks in advance

Have you read the link below?

If not do so, it takes some reading and is quite a lot to take in at first but well worth it.

Hope it helps
