output filesize too small

ok, this is the second movie i tried to encode in Nandub that fails.
if i set the bitrate calculated, the file become like 400 mb big and quality sucks. when i try values as 9000 Kbps, the quality is much better but the filesize is 1 gb when it should be 2 * 700 mb.
if i check with gspot it says the bitrate is ~ 1000 Kbps when it could be ~ 1300 Kbps!

This has never happened before!

And i tried to encode it over 10 000 kbps but it dosn't work, the filesize gets even lower to like 930 mb!
Can it be that i cropped bad?
people call this problem a too compressable DVD, but i would like to call this one a too uncompressable DVD since Nandub can't compress it right.
I've noticed that the screen is a little too big to be widescreen, so maybe i should change the resolution so it will compress better.
but if i cropp it more (using Gknot) it's almost impossible to have a nice resolution without too much aspect error!

So if someone could help me out here please share your solution!

Load the stat-file in GKnot and see what compression ratio you get. If it is >100% then you have reached the maximum for that movie and you have to select a different (larger) resolution.

you're right the result was 121.3% !
i now got 544*240, and you think it should be more? not less?
because i thought this problem came up because i had a bad resolution. mayve i missunderstood ya, please explain.

Well, I don't know why the quality isn't satisfactory, but I know I had some problems with anti-shit, so if it is on then try turning it off. Could you post the .avs and the log file from GKnot so maybe we can see something that isn't right.

The resolution as such is a nice mod-16 so you shouldn't have any problems with that. Still, since the compression test shows 121% you basically have two possibilities: Increase resolution and go for 2CD, or go down to a 1CD rip.

i've forget to mention; i only use Gknot to get a fair resolution, and then i encode it in Nandub. And as far as i know it isn't any log file in Nandub (i think) i'm sorry to make is so complicated.
the movie is 117 min so if i would go for an 1 cd rip it would look like hell :) and i also want to have ac3 audio........
i will try to disable anit-shit, because i've always had the feeling that it's not good. why is it good anyway?

Anti-shit is a special feature created by nando in order to avoid freeze-frames. Unfortunately it is not very stable, and unless you encode a clip and gets freezed frames you should not use it. What it does is to insert extra keyframes when it senses that something might have gone wrong. It doesn't seem to check what settings you have for keyframe compression ratio (DRF) but uses whatever it wants, like DRF31! Awful! This sends filesize prediction off the scale, and the more I think about it, it is a very likely source for your problems. Quite frankly I switched to DivX5.02 a while ago and I have only made one (1) SBC since so it took a while for my brain to get into right gear. ;)

i turned anitshit off and changed the current value of 9000 Kbps to the normal calculated value of 1493 kbps.
ok the output file wasn't 1400 mb big but 914 mb.
but thats success anyway!
because the other times when encoded with 9000 kbps it almost didn't reach 910 mb, but now it does at 1 493 kbps.
i used Gspot (program that can check bitrate of files)to check this new output. it wasn't an disapointment either, cause a 914 mb file usually don't have a bitrate of 1142 kbps (have never reached that far when i tied that before).
i also checked what a 914 mb file with ac3 audio (224 kbps & 179 mb)
would have in video bitrate in Nandub SBC calculator, it said: 899 kbps. and i had 1142!
so if i want more bitrate, i guess i set it like 2000 kbps and maybe it will show up in ~1400 kbps. i should also lower the DRF a bit because i raised it too much when i encoded it last time!

it's going forward and i'm very thankful. i will post the result later.
