View Full Version : DVD-9 to DVD-5: Which files do I use?

I'm STILL going through the "DVD-9 to DVD-5" guide (nearly there) but I'm falling at the last hurdle. I'm authoring "Monster Inc". I've authored the film and everything seems to be OK when I play the files in "File Mode" in Power DVD. The problem is when I start to rename the VOB files which have just been authored and try to put them back into the original film. In my example the main movie VOB files are VTS_09, so I have renamed the authored VTS_01 VOB files to VTS_09 (all except VTS_01_0.VOB & VTS_01_0.IFO which I have left as is). The question is, which files do I now need to copy over? I've removed the original VTS_09 VOB files and copied over the new ones but that doesn't seem to work. Do I also need to copy over the authored VTS_01_0.VOB and VTS_01_0.IFO files? The guide says "You MUST leave the IFO file and VTS_02_0.VOB (VTS_09_0.VOB in my case) files!" which IFO file is it reffering to? I hope that all makes sense.

HI
as a newbie myself and taking the following from my notes these are the files that are required to make your dvd work
video_ts.bup, .ifo, .vob
vts_01_0.ifo, .vob
and your movie files off course,
in your c:\ drive you will have created several folders all uppercase
VIDEO_TS
AUDIO_TS
AND V, i use V its easy to remember
always back your files up before starting ok
do not drag your new files over to the original folder drag the required files from the original folder to the new one, see below for required files, and use ifoedit in the new folder to correct headers
open ifoedit and load your movie, go to menu extra and then extract your files to (I will use the V folder) V folder making sure strip vob ID's is UNTICKED, when you do this, this will correct things and in your folder you should have all the vts_ you require and also split the files to 1 GB, in your new folder open your movie file with ifoedit again and press dvd play, then make sure you burn it from an image,
( obviously make sure the other setting are correct in ifoedit when stripping, as per the guide)
I also use Nero wizard DVD video as a testing platform for my edits, when i drag them over this tells me if i have missed anything,)
hope this helps out

Where is any of that in the guide, DSS? I'm not following you at all. Hey! If it works for ya though, GREAT! :)

@sasmj: I'm going to explain this from your viewpoint on the project you're working on. Let's say your original files are like this...

VTS_09_0.IFO
VTS_09_0.VOB
VTS_09_1.VOB
VTS_09_2.VOB
VTS_09_3.VOB
VTS_09_4.VOB
VTS_09_5.VOB

...and your authored files are like this...

VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB

The first thing you will want to do is move the files VTS_09_1.VOB through VTS_09_5.VOB somewhere else. I wouldn't throw them out just yet because you might want to work with them later.

Next you're going to rename the VTS_01_1.VOB and VTS_01_2.VOB files you authored to VTS_09_1.VOB and VTS_09_2.VOB and move them into the original directory with the other original files.

Once you've done this, you continue with the guide as it is concerning IFOupdate. Run the program and point it to the appropriate files for updating.

BTW... I've changed the title of this post. In the future, please refrain from using completely useless topics like "Is my English really that bad!!!". As per forum rules, you need to make the title of your post relevant to the information you're posting.

Hi all
HI I will check my guides and reply, maybe I am lost a little, but if you have time maybe you can check my method out,
I rip the movie, main titles and stream process as well into c:| VIDEO_TS (uppercase)folder, using Tomb raider, so my vobs are _02_01 etc, i open Ifoedit and load my main movie into it, i then press vob extra's and make sure strip vob id's is not ticked, this changes all the requirments vod Id's etc in the folder i have stripped too,
Ifoedit changes all by itself, I check and test the newly created movie with dvd player and use nero to check its content and the format, and then drag them all back inot VIDEO_TS folder for burning an image, No renaming etc, can you let me know what you find please
