here's my problem, for some reason flask has trouble encoding some dvds over 3 hours (HKDVD anime) and i will have 5 eps out of the series that i will have to encode to divx then vcd.

since i never try encoding divx before, what should the resolution be?

The fact that in Doom9 forums there isn't a forum named "FlaskMPEG" shows that the app is not popular. I will sugest you to use DVD2SVCD the last release, which has very good possibility to encode to VCD. You will have no probs with 3h DVDs and save the time skipping divx step. If for some reason you want to keep Flask than for divx use Gordian Knot - it will resize automatically for you.
Greetings.

i didn't ask what program i should uses instead of flask, i asks what resolution i should use for encoding divx; if i remember correctly dvd2svcd requires CCE with at least 550 mhz, my computer only got 500.

why did you even reply, if your not even going to help?

Well, I have thought, I'm helping, but...
Divx doesn't require some standart resolution like SVCD and VCD. To achieve best results you should keep the original source resolution (720:XXX, I don't know even your source type NTSC or PAL) and encode 1-pass quality based 100% quality. Well, I hope this is helpful...

Sorry, but even just read that sounded VERY rude and UNNECESSARY to me.

He didn't have to reply at all to your post, but he offered you options as you didn't even detail the problems you were having, and why we (we meaning the people who frequent these boards and site) prefer not to use Flask (the NUMEROUS faults including that it's very flaky at the least).

Since you've never encoded DivX before, but are on the doom9 forums, try going to www.doom9.org and reading the DivX FAQs, all your questions can be answered there.

As for your attitude, that can't be answered for there, but hopefully you'll understand why you have no responses on this thread from a kind moderator or other fellow with information (of which I have met a couple who were very kind and very eager to help).

i'm sorry if i was rude, but i have a right to be; all i wanted to know was what resolution i should uses, he could at least suggested the resolution, and then recommend what program i should be using.

i'm sick and tire of, when someone actually mention that they are using flask/xmpeg (i know that they are a LOT of program far better than flask/mpeg) they always said that it's crap, and then recommend something better, while sometime just ignoring the question they asked.

i know that flask has alot of problems, but the only problem i'd ever had (and the reason i created this thread), was that it had trouble encoding somewhere after 3 hours of video.

i red the divx guides, i know what to do, except for resolution (but that doesn't matter anymore, because i'm done)

Hi-

dani82, Abond's advice was very good. There's no need to make the intermediate DivX. DVD2SVCD doesn't require CCE. You can also use TMPEG for the encoding.

i'm sorry if i was rude, but i have a right to be

No you don't. Even if Abond didn't answer your question (which was uninformed at best), he was polite and cheerful. I think you should read the Forum Rules (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm), particularly Rule #4 about being polite and not insulting people. Those rules *are* enforced.

I'm glad you got your problem solved, but please be more careful with your replies in the future.

ArdenDag, I couldn't have said it better myself.
