Smartripper might be your problem. Try either using vstrip, dvddecrypter, or find smartripper2.40 or earlier. If I remember correctly, smartripper2.41+ a lot of times causes sync issues when ran through DVD2AVI.
That, or try DVD2SVCD's NTSC to PAL setting. (I'm assuming that's what you are doing.) It's built in ripper is really good and rarely fails.

I have same problems.
1. I rip pal dvd with DVDDecriptor.
2. After finishing I have one video and one audio strim.
3. using TMPGEnc I reencode pal to NTSC.
After that my A\V strims are out of synch.
I do not know what to do?

I've not done any pal to ntsc or ntsc to pal conversions. (Never needed to.) But I think maybe your problem is with the audio framerate. Try using besweet. I think it has a framerate. Where it can convert 25000 to 23.976. Like I said, I've never done this before. Maybe someone who's done this can help.

did you try to encode your streams with in the advanced tab option, "do not frame rate conversion" unchecked?

do you mean just check ' do not frame rate conversion '
in the advanced tab mate?

Yes I check "do not frame rate conversion" Becouce this is only
way to get smooth picture. If I re-encode with this function unchecked picture is jerking.

If your dvd2avi is version 1.85 then that is your problem. It has a bug whereby with forced film it sets the framerate to 24 fps. It needs 23.976 fps if its forced film. Edit the d2v file (It's plain text" and change the 24.000 to 23.976 and reencode.
If you leave it as 23.976 video then there wont be sync issues. If you want to make an SVCD youll need to lock NTSCFILM SVCD profile, then locd unlock profile and finish setting it up. that will make your 23.976 SVCD playback @ 29.97 fps which SVCD requires, without actualy encoding the extra frames.

I do not use DVD2AVI at all. If I am not mistaken frame rate 23,976
is not accepted by authoring programs like DVDMaestro. I am not doing SVCD.

DVDMaestro is not the topic here

Did you also remember to speed up the audio accordingly? If your audio is still 23.976fps instead of 25fps, you'll get sync problems;)
You can use BeSweet to do this. Use it with DanniDin's GUI if you're not familiar with the program.

I'm confused by this...the video of course has a frame rate of 23.976 for film and 25 for pal and 29 for ntsc...but the audio has a frame rate too???
i've never understood why the audio gets out of sync, but i'm beginning to think its related to this frame rate issue...
but how can audio have a frame rate?

all i know is that after converting from ntsc to pal audio was out of sync, when converting from ntsc to ntsc it was perfect.
i tried checking the do not frame rate conversion whilst doing ntsc to pal and it was still out of sync
i would still like to know how to convert to pal with audio in sink so if anybody has an answer please e-mail me
i have tried ripping with dvd decryper instead of smartripper and results were the same
i have also messed about with dvd2avi (version 1.76), am not sure if i need newer version as Stabmaster-Arson says theres a bug
i am trying to re-encode the movie from dvd9 to make dvd5, which like i said b4 have done with loads of pal dvd's but not yet an ntsc
my heads in bitz now

I'm not sure if it's exactly correct to say that audio has a framerate. However, if you for example look at the video framerate properties in VirtualDub, you'll see the framerate for both video and audio.
The problem here is most likely the thing that video is 25.000fps while the audio remains at 23.976fps. And you'll know what happens if the difference is this big.
Extract the audio from the file, open the audio file in GoldWave and see how long it exactly is. Compare this to the video length after it has been converted to PAL. If there is a huge difference, you'll need to speed up the audio accordingly.
I've done several NTSC->PAL conversions lately and they are all in perfect sync.
So, my method would be as follows:
1. Extract the audio out of the _original_ file
2. As the audio probably is 23.976, use BeSweet with DanniDin's GUI (use the version 0.6b61, b63 has some problems) and convert the audio from 23.976 to 25.000fps. If you want to encode the audio in TMPGEnc, convert to WAV , if you just mux the files later, you can convert straight to MP2 with BeSweet.
3. Do whatever you do in TMPGEnc to convert the video from 23.976 to 25.000fps. (I use Avisynth for frameserving, so I'll just add AssumeFPS(25.000) to the end of my script)
4. Do the video (and audio, if needed) conversion
5. Mux the files if needed
That should be it, _if_ the problem is wrong framerate for audio.
Edit: post number 200..I spend too much time around here:cool:
