want to get a dvd writer some people say the sonydru500 is the best some say the pioneer 105 but this is what i red abount pioneer Their review findings weren't very surprising, only real cons in the drive were in copy-protected audio extraction and replication, which shouldn't be a big deal for most of the users anyway.
i want to get a writer but i am worried in a couple of years which format will rule please help anyone

I think that in a couple of years they will be giving the dvd writers away like they are giving the cdr writers away today.
You can buy a liteon 40-48X cd burner for less than $50. Some may argue that liteon is not the best, but no one will argue it is an inferior product...they are good burners. I think dvd burners will be the same, no matter the format. So you are gambling with $50 of your 2004 dollars...not much of a gamble.
just my 2 cents :D

it don't matter what one u get
all the new dvd rom players and dvd writers can
read all the + and - formats.
The only difference is what media YOU have to buy to write on.
-r media is 40% cheaper at the moment.
the newer the writer, the more media problems you will have.
a pioneer 104 with 2x4all firmware v1.31 will write
to the widest selection of dvd-r media at 2x
and reliable media will cost you about 75p a go for it.
the pioneer 105 has problems with media
the sony 500 has problems with media
in 2 years you will be writing 100gig dvds in 10 minutes
with writers that cost £50 a go. If you need to write
dvds now go out and buy one, if you don't.....wait!
