View Full Version : Overlay problem

With the lastest DLL, I got this. The movie is unplayable with "Mode 1" in BSPlayer, but is ok with RGB32 overlay.
ffdshow has no problem decoding it in both modes.

a) don't make up a new thread for every question.
b) use the search button.
c) bsplayer isn't xvid
d) your vga drivers aren't xvid
...
*gnarf*
Btw., I don't even see the problem...

>> a) don't make up a new thread for every question.
That's the main goal of a Forum
>> b) use the search button.
There is NO tread about that because I used the lastest build
>> c) bsplayer isn't xvid
but that is the software ppl use to watch it
>> d) your vga drivers aren't xvid
we use that too for XviD
>> Btw., I don't even see the problem...
The problem is that the DirectShow filter don't work well. You know, when you can't see the movie it's not working... and when it's not working we reports bugs to help development.
Btw, don't thanks me ;)

I think this is a problem with the new colorspace code or at least the way I interface with it...
Turn off rgb overlay in Windows Media Player to get it to work for now. Im glad its not just my system, ill try & look into it soon...

Ok, once more for people who don't understand hints applied with a sledge hammer:
You post too much.
This isn't your personal forum.
Your questions _got_ answered in the past.
You donb't want to respect our forum rules? Ok for me, but then don't complain if I (or we) take action.

@Sirber
The overlay problems with BSPlayer is not something new, so imho it's got nothing to do with the new dev. builds and XviD; Koepi is right! ;). (Also, (off-topic again, but) switching between "mode 1" and "mode 2" usually solves that kinda problems with BSPlayer. You can consider using ZoomPlayer, too, which doesn't cause such problems.)
Btw, I really appreciate your effort and your interest in XviD matters, but there is really "no" need to start a new thread here for "every" problem you encounter! :D

@Nic:
Nope, it doesn't seem to be the new color space stuff as it works flawless here.
only problem is that the images look a bit like tetris is running within the player window :)

>> You post too much.
Am I the only one to report bugs and post about my experience with dev build?
>> This isn't your personal forum.
I know. But this forum is for everyone and maybe other people are interrested.
>> Your questions _got_ answered in the past.
They got answered in the past for past issues. Builds are different and settings too. Look at the picture at the begening of this tread. I got it with the lastest (yours) build using xvid.ax. If it plays well with ffdshow and ffdshow using xvid, you admin that THERE is a problem.
>>You donb't want to respect our forum rules? Ok for me, but then don't complain if I (or we) take action.
I already recieved stuff in my mail. Rulz #1 and #11. Thanks to you. I respect the rulz because this tread don't fit. Are you trying to kick me out? That's lame.

Did the changelog mention something about: fixed overlay issues with crappy drivers/old graphic cards?
_NO_.
So this issue isn't _new_.
It's still the _old_ one.
Why do you insist that you bring up new things while you just try to gain more "importance" making up new threads for old issues?
If i'd want to kick you out that post would've been your last for 4 weeks.
Please, gimme a sign that you somehow understand what I write.
I can't get rid of the feeling that you're troll - honestly.

Well ok lets leave that particular subject closed & stay on topic now...
If anyone else has similar decoding problems then please post here...

@Koepi
This tread is about XviD.ax overlay problem with the lastest from Nic. Why do you talk about "fixed overlay issues with crappy drivers/old graphic cards" ? I think it's you that don't understand. Maybe other people will have this problem so they will have ressources to how to fix it. I'm not trying to get importance like you say but help in debuging alpha build.
Here's the soluce:
* Use RGB32 if your card support it
* Use ffdshow

Itīs no good... to act like little kids (if you arenīt one) . Being friendly wonīt kill you, but neither will opening new threads with (semi?)logical headlines.
PS: many thanks to Xvid team for their effort, IT IS the codec at the moment and also users/testers for many good threads in this forum. It is indeed possible to learn Xvid + avisynth just by reading Doom9! Keep it up :D

@Nic:
I have the same overlay problem as Sirber with your last xvid.ax (dated 25 november).
hardware - Radeon 8500,winXP-SP1,P4 1.8GHz.
If I use this xvid.ax just as decoder (DirectShowSource in .avs) it's OK - so for sure it's a overlay mistake !
Currently I use a xvid.ax (your build dated 02 november) for painless viewing of my xvid files (or ffdshow.20021113).
@Sirber:
Please don't create new thread for xvid decoding problems if you find another one!

You better use ffdshow for this time as the xvid decoder doesn't properly decode qpel bframes+gmc (well, that's the combination that I tested).
If you have a win2k on your computer, can you test it there, too? And on a Win9x would be nice, too.
I'm quite sure it's more a driver problem, as it works here.

Koepi
EDIT: the image above isn't mod 16. install the matrox-g400-driver solution (dunno how it was called)

@Koepi:
I have problems with 'simplest' xvid.ax decoder (from your latest builds).
For many resolutions are all O.K., but e.g. for 576x320px I see only mischmasch stripes (exactly identical as picture above).
When I using ffdshow (using xvid.dll for decoding=ON) or VfW in virtualdub (decoding directly without xvid.ax, only xvid.dll), it is O.K. (interest?)
@Nic:
Your newest XviD decoder is buggy for me :(
I cant use seeking in video. Sound plays, but video stays.
@Syskin:
Congrats!
YOur latest modifications of b-frame's code are excelent! :)
I test (q-pel + b-frames). My test video looks very hopefull. Quality is comparable..., damm, quality of b-frames is much better as b-frames in divx5 now!!! :D
Compressibility is higher too. :D :D

Hi Sirber!
I think, the problem is 720...
I have an old build of Nic's xvid.ax (02 nov 2002),witch
work perfect at all resolutions (at least for 720x???) with
the same OS-VGA drivers ...so he know the trick ...

Same problem here, I hadn't noticed the problem before because I was using the DivX 5 decoder for my files. Using Koepi's latest XviD build (25th) and using default settings (no b-frames, no qpel, no custom quant etc.) I just get bad video, like when you don't use a mod32 res. When I use the DivX 5 decoder it shows the picture properly (720x480). Q-Pel does not seem to work properly for me either, but that could be becuase I was using the DivX 5 decoder. When I use Q-pel with everything else default (no b-frames), I seem to get very garbled frames with bad blocks everywhere. A good description would be like "Shit frames" with nandub. But everything else is working great (I have not used GMC yet).
EDIT: I also get white dots with lumi masking on in black areas.

I have also experienced the horizontal overlay issue discussed in this thread, using WMP 6.4 on WinME and the 20.11.2002 23:00 uManiac instant build. I was using a resolution of 720x384, and had all the latest experimental stuff disabled (no b-frames, no qpel, no GMC, etc.). If YUV overlays are enabled, the standard xvid dshow filter exhibits the problem, but ffdshow has no problem with it at all. So it isn't just a BSPlayer issue, and using ffdshow solves the problem for me.
I have a TNT2 card, which appears to have some other known issues with xvid/ffdshow and overlays. So if it works for me, hopefully it will work for people with less problematic cards/drivers as well :) It would still be nice to eventually get the xvid dshow filter to work as robustly as the divx and/or ffdshow filters, though :) I know, I know, overlays must be a royal pain in the butt to mess with....

Correction: I was using a resolution of 704 x 368 (forgot I had cropped after rather than before resizing).
If vinetu saw the problem at 720x480, there goes the horizontal mod32 idea :(
