Can somebody help me?
I often have DVD's which are on a dvd-9 and i want to put it
on a dvd-5 but i want to keep the original menu. If i just
rip the main movie and put back the original video_ts.vob
and it's *.ifo and *.bup it doesn't work. Can somebody please tell
me how to rip the main movie and still keep the original menu
without the intro's and the extra features but with it's
scene selection?

Go to IfoEdit.
Press Open and load the VIDEO_TS.IFO
Then press the DVD Play. Watch the intro and the FBI warnings and when it comes to the main menu, play and watch 1-2 minutes of the movie.
Press Exit.
Then a window comes up telling you which vobs played. Those vobs are needed to have the movie menu (it also contains the chapters but not the extras).
Happy ripping

I did that, but the problem with this is that it doesn't give
me the preview. It gives me an error! Something about intializing
the audio-streams?
Maybe you know how to change this?
And very much thnx for your help so far!!!

Go straight to http://www.doom9.org/ to the download section.
Find the Filters and download the Audiofilters.
If the problem persists, then try the Elecard MPEG Video Decoder. This will work fine.
Keep on rockin' :p

Rip the complete dvd to a VIDEO_TS file. Then in ifoedit open the video_ts file and click DVD play like they said above. AFter the movies starts click exit. ifoedit will tell you what titlesets were played. for example in Remember the Titans there are:
video_ts.ifo/bup/vob
vts_01_0.ifo/bup/vob
vts_02
vts_03
vts_04
vts_05
vts_06
vts_07
vts_08
after playing several seconds of the movie it said that vts02, vts08, and vts01 were played. vts01 is the movie so the trailers, previews, fbi warnings are in vts2 and vts8. You need to edit those 2.

If your movie is bigger than the dvd-r disk it's better not to keep the menus because you'll have to make a big compression to the movie and it will suffer from poor quality :(
Make less compression and keep the movie with good quality without the menus. You can live with that I guess :D

My home dvd player witll not play any DVD-R movie without menus. I can backup a DVD5 movie and it will work fine but if i strip down a DVD9 with just the movie only it will not play but will on other dvd players.

KYUSS:
I use Smartripper to rip, ifoedit to strip, and Stomp to burn. The DVD9s that i strip w/o menus will work but not on my home DVD player. What do you mean, "u do know u need to set "first play" to chapter 1? "
thanks

its just that some authoring proggys require u to tell the dvd where to start when its put in a dvd player ie:menu1 or movie 1 chapter 1
i'm not an expert m8
but i use maestro mostly and this requires u to do this......never tried 1 with out that set to first play movie 1 chapter 1 so i don't know if this would cause it not to "start" at the movie in my dvd player.
cheers
