PowerDVD xp4 & Toshiba DVD-rom

This is odd. I've got a Pioneer DVD-106 and a DVR-103 and both play commercial discs under PowerDVD XP 4 with no problems. However, a friend of mine's got an old Toshiba that recognizes comercial discs but gives this screen with a message regarding DVD regions and doesn't play the title.

I'm in region 1 and so is the disc in question. PowerDVD alerted me to the fact that certain DVD-rom players have an issue with CSS discs.

My qustion is: Has anyone come accross a similar issue and is there a workaround?

check here for a firmware update to remove region protection (read up on what you're doing, as you can destroy a drive if done incorrectly ~~~> not hard though, don't be scared). or download DVDGenie to remove region protection. also, maybe try another software DVD player. i'm not sure if this is the ansewr you're looking for, but it sounds more like a player issue than a drive issue.
