I was wondering which is the longest movie ever made and released on DVD ?

I think it's Cleopatra with 248 min.

Any longer movie out there ?

Well, GK won't take lengths that long so I had to do the calculations manually.
~180 MB for AVI overhead and interleaving (every second).
~76 MB for audio at 2 kbps
That leaves 444 MB for the video, at 12 kbps. If we assume that it's 4:3 and say that 900 kbps is an appropriate bitrate for 512*384, then proportionally this would have to be... 60*45.

I wonder if this is at all doable :rolleyes:

hahahaha - 85 hours, really ? WTH is this film ;) ? How about "Indecent Exposure" - that was the only film "long" enough for me to fall asleep during it ever. At the cinema as well ;)

ever made. The movie consisted of him reading the full length version of The Cure
for Insomnia which is over 26,000 pages long.

This film is basically an experiment designed to reprogram biological clocks for insomniacs so they can sleep again.

You are damn sure that even if I had months without sleep, this movie would make me go to bed ASAP...

Well, I've encountered a few 'Adult' DVD's with runtimes above 5h, and in one case 5h57m. Can anyone say LLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWW quality? (DVD-9, NTSC, interlaced)

I actually think it would be doable, if you lower the framerate to ~0.5fps. :rolleyes: Then you wouldn't have more frames to encode than a normal film that is 110m long.

Lame can go down to 8kbps => 300MB audio file.
Setting interleave to every 30 frames (1 minute!) would take some 7MB :confused: (GKnot indicated this value, but it might be bigger as this is calculated from number of frames regardless of frame size. It is quite clear that the overhead decreases drasticly when the framerate is decreased.)
Leaving 393MB for video.
Aiming for bpp =0.2 => 368x272

Not bad for a 85h movie :)

The longest movie I've ever seen is das Boot, Director's Cut (216 min). I think the original mini-series (shown on German tv in three parts) is even a little longer than that...

However, the longest film I've ever seen is my dad's last vacation video: it was 14 hours of raw material and the "director's cut" is now 9 hours 45 minutes. Needless to say that I had to help him editing this all the way through.... show me one more rock from the mid-west of the USA and I'll start to cry ;)

i saw one half of a half of it, i was very young, and couldnt eat more of it.
