Reliable cheap home DVD player....

I currently got a Toshiba sd1200 player. It doesnt play very many cd-r unless its a video-cd. and plays only a handful of DVD-Rs. So my question is what is a good reliable cheap home DVD player that i can get to replace this Toshiba? Maybe something from Walmart/kmart/Target. Something that will play cd-r/cd-rw and dvd-r. Spend $200 on the Toshiba and barely plays anything besides bought movies.

did you try www.vcdhelp.com (http://www.vcdhelp.com) and their dvd player search engine? I would take a look at that. I personally have a mintek 1600 that can play vcd/xvcd/svcd/xsvcd and it equals the quality of my tv-out of my video card and is slightly worse than my dad's sony dvd player. Granted, I am only viewing on a 19" tv.

I'm using Pioneer for about 3 years with no problem,
and it's region free as I'm in Asia. ;)

I recently bought an AKAI DVPS-760 from Sam's for $95. It has played all the DVD-R's I own, the few VCD's I have tried, picture CD's, and best of all, it can be made region free, plays PAL on NTSC, and is progressive scan. Picture quality (on my 27" tv) is just as good as my sony....

I haven't yet found the down side to it, or why it was only $95....

I have a Magnavox MDV450. I got it for $100 but I've heard it's now $70. It plays DVD/VCD/SVCD/MP3/CD-R/CD-RW and can display JPG's on the TV. Works good!

i bought a cyberhome ch dvd 402 ... it plays everything except divx...no joke... all formats(including xsvcd), all media (including dvd-r) ...it was cheap..99 bucks
