is it a bad thing if the resolution goes over 100% in gknots res tab?...the movie im working on now is standard 740*480 and afer cropping off the black is 680*348 and if i move the slider to 640, it is 640*368, giving me a horizontal zoom of 106%...im wondering if i use the 640*368 setting, will it affect the quality of the file, and if so, how much...

ps...i dont' use gknot for the encoding i use avs-->nandub, gknot is used just to find crop values & res

thanks

I'm not sure about it all but I think that anytime a setting goes red in gknot its a bad thing... but I'm certainly not talk from lots of experience.

Something seems wrong there... Unless I'm mistaken you should have a huge AR error.

Hi-

Hard to tell from the information given, N_F. It could be just a 1.85:1 movie whose sides he cut to keep AR. It could even be a 1.66:1 movie and he cut into the top and bottom. But yes, natami, after moving the slider, be sure and check for AR Error.

I sometimes get the Vertical Resolution into the red by a little bit with high resolutions. Personally I don't mind upsizing by a little bit. But like you, blargbigfoot, I'm a bit uneasy about it. I don't like to see red either.

How I was thinking:

After cropping the black bars the picture is 680*348 (1.95), with right AR one may assume (or?).

Then he resized to 640*368 (1.74) which should give a rather big AR error.

Hi N_F-

I was assuming one or the other was a typo since you can't use the slider and get the Horizontal res smaller and the Vertical res higher. But you're right, something's screwy. But my guess is that he meant 640x384 the first time and both have correct AR. Maybe natami will come back and straighten us out.

hey guys, thanks for the response...ill try and include a screenshot of the res tab, but the values i said up there were correct, no typoes...i ended up just using 608*336 for the res, so its kinda a moot point, but i'm still curious
thanks

...it seems my pic doesn't want to work...anyway, the crop values are L20, T66, R20, B66, the video is NTSC 4:3 non anamorphic, the AR in the crop box is 1.776, width and height 680*348...on the slider, when i move so the width is 640, the height is 368, giving an H-zoom of 106%, the only other red box is on the left hand side of the output res box, under Stats Pixels, it is 114.7%...bits/ pixel*frame box is as follows: 0.174 48.9% of 0.355 , vid size is 56.1%

if you need more info, just let me know

because of the comp-check result you should reduce your resolution anyway. go down one notch and everything is fine...
