Rv9 in Avisynth ?

Hello,

is there a plugin to be able to read Rv9 in Avisynth ?

And if not, do "someone" have plan to do it in the future ?

(I know already some programe (EO-video, tinra) to convert Rv9->DivX, but if it were possible, I really most prefer doing this throught Avisynth ).

This is quite a good question. At lot of people is saying it is very hard to edit RV, then i find this program called EO which could convert EV( file to AVI......

Anyone how could this be done?? And the same queston, could we use RV( with avisyth??

supposedly next month when the helix server and producer source codes are released RealMedia plugins for avisynth, vdub and etc will be possible. The info comes from this post

I believe the Helix DNA Client code has been released, which contains all you need to read Real files.

I hope that someone will make something available, as *rm and *rmvb begin to be populars on the net ;-) (and I still prefere divx, that's why it will be cool to use Avisynth to transform it).

...just my 2 cents: not only that RV9 is better than Divx for cartoons (and maybe manga, I don't know), but if a file is compressed to RV9 already, then re-compressing it will always degrade the quality. The new Realone player isn't that bad I think, you can use it just like any other good mediaplayer. I also prefer Divx for anything else than cartoons, but I wouldn't re-compress to Divx just for the fun of it...

don't say that, or i'll go mad.

if you want RV9 effect on cartoons or anime, use some kind of hardcore denosing, add a blur, and during decoding a very very aggressive postprocessing with basic sharpenning after.

this way, you can have better results than RV9 even using DivX 5.0 :rolleyes:

and i know what i'm speaking about (i'm not trying to reproduce the results of the RV9, but trying to get 2x more quality at same bitrate. and XviD does it.)

Simpsons and Futurama tv captures are extremely well suited for heavy filtering. I'm using temporalsmoother(4,1).spatialsoften(2,5,7).temporalsmoother(4) before encoding to RV9. The filtering is not too much for these cartoons, I think.
I agree that RV9 smoothes too much for real movies.

Sorry, but I much prefere to watch movie on my 16/9 TV than on my 17'' computer lol.

That's why I always transformed DivX/Rv9 in CVD/SVCD.
And since KISS DP-450 I transform Rv9/DivX3 into DivX5/XViD..

But you are right, mathematicaly, there's a loss of quality withe these conversions.
But for my human eyes, the quality is much better on my TV, than on my Comp, even after a coversion ;-)

But the day when a DVD player would be able to read (S)VCD/CVD, DivX (all the familiy), Rv9, I wont play anymore with conversion ;-)

When I compare the quality of a Rv9 in the "Player of Real", with the quality of a DivX5/XviD in ViPlayer or ZoomPlayer, I find that DivX5/XviD looks really much better than Rv9 ! (but that's right that Rv9 looks *maybe* better than DivX3)

OK - I didn't connect Divx with Standalone on 16:9 TV. Then of course you're right, I guess I'd do that conversion, too :)

...and I also like the looks of Divx5, Xvid and Divx3.11 (if well done with Nandub) better than RV for most content. Only for cartoons that can be filtered excessively, RV9 looks better at small file sizes (better colors, almost no blocks and no mosquito noise, probably only because of the strong smoothing).

Have you seen the codec comparison by Doom9? There's one frame from Saving Private Ryan where it's raining with all codecs except for RV9 - RV9 smoothed the picture so much that you can't see the rain anymore. This behaviour is excellent for the Simpsons, but certainly not for Saving Private Ryan ;)
