Ifoedit And Cce The Right Way

From start to finish..

I am going to give you the steps to be followed first.Then I will reference the doom9.org pages that will be helpful in these steps..and I will also tell you what I do that has worked for me in 250 or so DVD Rips. :>))
(Some members may say that they prefer to use REMPEG for transcoding but I have used both and highly recommend CCE Over REMPEG. But to each his own..whatever works for you.)

Doing INNERSPACE DVD right now vias this method.

1.Rip Main Movie Files (plus the first three files on your DVD) onto your harddrive.
2.Strip out unwanted material (warnings, extra languages, extra subtitles) using the simple IFOEDIT strip I explained in the previous post.
3.Load first VOB file from your new VOB File folder into DVD2AVI.

4.Run VFAPI Reader Codec on the .avi you credted with dvd2avi.

5. Load the vob files from before into Bitrate Viewer and mark down the info it gives you. (upper field first, zigzag scanning order..etc...)You will need this info for CCE in the next step.
6.Load .avi into CCE. And use this page for setting up your CCE settings.

As in SVCD making, this step will tax your cpu and take some time so be patient for a great DVDR Creation.
7.Once CCE is done with it's multilpe passes, you will need to run Pulldown on the resulting .mpv file. Pulldown is included with DVD2SVCD.

The exact command.
Pulldown project.mpv output.m2v –prog_frames p

This step gives you a .m2v file that you can use in DVD Maestro in your reauthoring step.

8.Use Chapter Xtractor to extract your chapter pints from the vob files.
9.Start up Spruce Maestro DVD Authoring program

You will not need all the steps they explain.
Mainly you will need to:
-import your video and ac3 files as media assets.
-import your chapter files.
-make sure you have the first chapter set as first play in your dvd project.

Maestro will compile your new dvd files into a VIDEO_TS folder which you just burn to a DVDR with Nero.

My DVD Ripping consists of only ripping the Main Movie and the 5.1 DD Audio and the chapters. I do not keep extras, menus, etc...

There are 2 kinds of ripping I have encountered:

1.The vob files are just a tad too large to fit onto a DVDR after ripping the main movie files to your hard drive..Simple IFOEdit rip.

2.The vob files are very large (>5gb or more) after you have ripped the main movie files to your hard drive. Needs Encoded with CCE or ReMPEG.


I will start in this post by explaining how I achieve my rip of the main mvoie and 5.1 DD audio. This is second nature to me by now...So if any step is not explained to you enough for you to understand Please ask.

Example: I just did The 6th Day DVD this am.

After having DVD Decrypter rip the Main Movie files PLUS the first 3 files on the DVD onto my hard drive. I noticed that the total file size was roughly 4.8gb or so. So I could do a simple rip with IFOEdit.
The doom9.org tutorial is pretty self explanatory on this kind of ripping. The only step which is not explained properly..is how to use VOBRATOR to decide which VOB IDs to keep in your rip. You will need to open each VOB file with VOBRATOR and view them individually to see which VOB IDs have movie files and which have warnings, opening credits, end credits, etc...
You will want to cut these out if you are very close to fitting your movie files onto a DVDR.

I will explain the DVD Ripping Step by Step when you have to encode using CCE in my next post shortly.

Funny enough .. i was gona make a thread asking if anyone tried the ifoedit method to rip all unwanted stuff .. and the use the cce method for the necessary reencoding. All this because i hate ReMpeg .. well the answer is there :cool:

The only thing I would add to your explaination is that it is much easier and more efficient to use DVD2AVI to determine what VOB IDs/Cells to keep. Simply, load up each sequence (VTS_0x_x.VOB) one at a time and use the slider at the bottom of the main window to scroll from left to right, which will preview the entire rip in chronological (time sequence) order. You will see the contents of the entire sequence (movie, credit, extras, etc.) and each corresponding VOB ID/cell.

You only need to select the lowest numbered file in a sequence (for example, VTS_01_0.VOB) and all of the remaining files in the sequence will be loaded. Move the slider and take note of the VOB ID/cell information for use in your extraction with IFOedit.

After I found how easy this technique is, I have never used VOBRATOR to determine that information. Too much work, too unstable to obtain exactly the same information.

Actually, you can determine which VOBS you need to keep right in IFOEdit. When you open the IFO, you can scroll and see information on each PGC. It's usually easy to see which PGC is the main movie by looking at the length. Over to the right of the initial info on the PGC, you will see which VOB ids that PGC uses in parantheses. Write down or remember them. Those are the only ones you need to keep.

I'm trying to run the second pass of CCE and when trying to encode...I'm getting a video check sum error stating video source data or time code may be different. Someone please help me with this...thanks.

if you're using 2.50 you need a CRC fix/patch. Do a search on the whole board and you'll find the link to it.
