this has happend with only a few films (ie panic room, beautifull mind, black hawk down)I rip the film and using ifoedit split it to two discs, do the usual creat ifos and get vts sectors and then burn the discs. Disc one plays great but disc two always plays what appears to be the first second of each chapter only !! The second disc plays great on my friends pioneer but not on my sony. lots of other film splits to two discs go without a hitch
