Changes between 1.0.9 b 3 & 1.1.0 1a

1.0.9 b3 worked perfectly for me.
When using the latest version my SVCDs now don't play in the Philips DVD 725 player, the playback is choppy. They play fine on the computer.

I use the default settings on the whole, only ever changing the number of CD settings on the bitrate tab, or the sound between 160 & 192.

I use CCE 2.50.

Any clues as to a reason? I was wondering if the default settings for CCE and BBMPEG had changed between the versions, or if the version of BBMGEG had changed, as I can't think what else could be causing the problem.

In the meantine I have gone back to 1.0.9 b3 and it works perfectly.

I know those Philips players have been reported here time and time again as being finicky or just plain poor at playing SVCD's.

One thing that I have seen mentioned recently is that there seems to be a bios version out for them. You may want to look around and see if you can't upgrade it to the latest version. That has solved a few peoples problems recently with Philips or Philips made DVD players.

The Philips 725 (purchased in NZ) plays SVCD, CVD, VCD well, and I have the latest firmware.

I am really wondering which changes between 1.0.9 build 3 and the latest could be resposible for my latest SVCDs not working. It is unlikely to be audio related, and the video encoder is the same, CCE 2.50, so I wonder if the muxing is causing the problem. Anyone know if BBMPEG changed between versions?

Not a huge problem really as the older version works just fine, but it is always good to try out newer version with new features, and I like the frame select feature of the newest version.

Being an owner of a Philips 743 with the absolute latest FW for now(4.23.23.2) , all I can tell you is that unfortunately, SVCDs is not Philips' strongest point. Although, as you say, they clearly say that they DO support SVCDs. My Cyberhome AD M-212 doesn't mention anywhere that it suports SVCDs or Philips style subs, yet it plays them almost perfectly (picture perfect, subs freeze once per CD - no garbage or anything, just subs freeze. I go through subs 1,2,3,4 they appear again - )

For some Philips owners, earlier versions of D2S with SubMux worked better. Not perfect, just better. Reason unknown so far...

Also, perm subs work better You still get momentarily sound dissappearances, but otherwise. ok.

Bottom line: It's not D2S's problem, but Philips' :( They are getting better with each FW upgrade, but still not there... They seem to be trying, though.

Thanks for the links. I don't use subs, so that can't be the problem. My 725 plays SVCDs perfectly, and even some unusual KVCD disks, so in that respect I am very happy with the machine (firmware 9.28). But something must have changed in the most recent D2S as SVCDs created with the newest verson don't play.

On the Misc. tab in both versions, switch to the DVD2SVCD advanced mode, then have a look at the advanced bbMPEG settings on the bbMPEG tab. Are there any differences?

Good idea, I hadn't thought of having both versions installed simultaneously, and no I can't see any differences. And the version of BBMPEG is the same.

That is a really bad idea. There are several DLL files that get installed in your system and system32 directory. You will overwrite them if you do this causing potential issues.

The versions of the DLL's have changed between versions of DVD2SVCD as well as the version of BeSweet.
