I have SVCD with audio that contains much clipping ("cracking" noise on high-volume parts). To solve this, I converted audio (MP2) to WAV and tried to reduce clipping (tried with normalisation, lowering volume for few dBs ...) but without any results.
Is there a way or tip how to solve this problem without re-capturing audio with lover volume?

load your wav file into Goldwave, then go to filter and select pop/click, that should slove your problem; other sound-editing should work too.

Try another solution before transcoding. MP2 * MP2 == MP BAD. :)

AFAIK, MP2 specification does not allow any changes in volume or simmilar things without reencoding. Also, worser quality is better than annoying clipping.
I will try with Goldwave ...

Cool Edit Pro provides a Clip Restoration filter.

The cause for this clipping for sure is not clipping due to decoding.
I guess someone used a fixed gain value for AC3 decoding which produced a clipped downmix wav.
Why do still so many DVD-to-(S)VCD-guides still discourage from using 2-pass AC3 decoding???? This would avoid all these problems.
