View Full Version : horizontal position of subtitles is wrong

Hi @folks
I tried to reencode a movie by CCE and did change the horizontal resultion to half, so my result is a 352x576 movie reencoded from 768x576
After authoring by ifoedit, all subtitles are at the right hand corner (I expected they would center automatically)
I take a look at the ifo files and changed the resolution everywhere to 352x576, except for the menu (which is still at 768x576)
But this has no effect to the movie.
Anybody there with an idea whats wrong ?
Thanks again,
LimpBiz

You wish! hehe :) Anyway, the problem most likely is that your actual subpictures are never changed at all. This is why many people, including myself, do not use IFOedit as an "authoring" tool. It's just not. It's VERY handy for what it does do well but not any sort of advanced "authoring". My best suggestion to you would be to learn some of the authoring software out there (Maestro, Scenarist, etc) and learn how to work with their subtitle options. You'll need to strip the subtitles out (and perform your placement correction on them!) using SubRip.
Now of course, I do not believe the resolution you're attempting to use with your video will be accepted for a DVD project. Can any PAL people give me some insight on this? I know, in the NTSC world that a 480x480 resolution is NOT accepted by the software. I must fool the software into thinking it's 720x480 and then switch the header back. Of course, Scenarist is too smart for this and only Maestro can be fooled. Anyway, long story short, IMO, I do not think you're going to be able to reposition your subtitles without going through a process that involves SubRip somehow.

forget the resolution change, just reencode with CCE to wanted size. you get better results and less problems. Any ideas how stand-alone player is going to react on resolution change?
IMHO: Ifoedit is nice tool but requires more work than Maestro.
