The Perfect Solution to have 5.1 sound with any Audio Format!

I think I found it. What were the problems.

1. Some people could not get SPDIF output from Intervideo AC3 filter (iviaudio.ax)
2. The owners of SB Live 5.1 and SB Audigy could not get correct mapping for Ogg 5.1 files (central speaker would not work).

I have read many and many topics however, a solution did not exist. Sorry if it was and I missed it somehow.

What you need to do:

1. Get rid of the InterVideo AC3 filter.
2. Install OggDS filter.
3. Install ChannelDownmixer filter (http://www.trombettworks.com/directshow.php)

Now, the tricky part. If you use iviaudio.ax then you will get the Ogg 5.1 sound mapped correctly (Ogg with 5.1 YEAY!) BUT the AC3 audio will play funny (kinda like the Devil's thick and slow voice).

So, use Moonlight Odio Dekoda which can easily decode AC3 and MP3. Get it at (www.moonlight.co.il/download/).

Now you have to configure Moonlight for 3.2 channel and SPDIF output and ChannelDownmixer for Multichannel output (stereo is selected by default).

If you do everything correctly you can play any avi, ogm file (even XCD), divx, xvid, mpg or whatever with ogg 2.0, ogg 5.1, wma, AC3, mp3 vbr sound.

As I mentioned somewhere else: AC3 + WM9PRO work, AAC and VORBIS don't work, so I guess this is just marketing and silent agreement between M$ and Creative (look at the WM9 anouncements).

Don't count on it though until consumers stop making uninformed purchases of Creative equipment. Would you spend more money and time to improve a product if consumers kept buying it even though it was known to be buggy? If it were money out of your own pocket then it would be hard to justify the expense ;-)

You would think after 3 years that the Creative drivers would have gotten even slightly better but that doesn't seem to be the case:rolleyes:

Can anyone tell me the advantages of the Moonlight Odia Dekoda compared to Valex's AC3 filter? I'm working on a rather large AC3 FAQ update and would like to be able to give the "Pros" & "Cons" of each. I'm leaning more toward Valex's filter which is superb IMHO but of course I'm open to other comments.

Edit- Also, can anyone think of a reason to even have the Intervideo Audio filters now? The two alternatives should make it obsolete I guess.

You guess right, I have been an I.A.F. user, and then an M.O.D user, and now I'm a V's. A. F. user.
-IAF was for me very "hard to set the interleave values in *.avi"
and Impossible to listen anything in *.ogm(+AC3), stincky playing.
-Now Both MOD and VsAF work's perfectly on my system,
Inteleave values are not anymore a trouble,
Perfect AC3 playing under ogg contener.
But, Wy shoulde we use VsAF?
-Very customsisable, all you allway's wanted to have in an audio DSF,
perfect downmixing , preset saving, and so so
and it's hosted @ sourceforge.net ;)

BTW I own a SBLive 5.1! ;)

Hi, I chekced the AC3 Filter 0.54b and the only thing I'm worried about is whether these Equalizers and Bar Graphs and Filters consume more CPU than the Moonlight codec...

Anywayz, using either AC3 Filter or Moonlight Odio Dekoda is exactly the same for this method...
