I seem to have run into a serious issue with divx and dv. divx handles indoor footage just fine but any outdoor (especially sunny) video compresses horribly. Terrible pixelation even using one of the best smoother filter's around (smart smoother).

Anyone else running into this problem? Is there a special filter I can use for this outdoor footage?

I am currently using divx 4.12 with the following filter queue

Smart De-interlace
Bilinear Resize
Smart Smoother 1.1

I know going to divx 5 might be a step in the right direction but it is not going to solve this outdoor pixelation issue.

any suggestions?

You need higher bitrates for bright video. If you want to keep your bitrate, you may lower the brightness by filtering for better compression. You can increase the brightness again during playback (it's a decoder setting).

DivX5 will improve your video, if you select b-frames.
