I'm curious how convincing the surround sound is with receivers using DPL II? This is, comparing a 2ch AC3 vs 5ch AC3 (straight from a DVD). Is there an audible difference to the casual listener? the attuned listener? I'm wondering b/c I'm purchasing a DPL II receiver for Chirstmas and am wondering if I should just start using 2ch AC3 files instead of the 5.1 AC3s (to save space if DPL II reproduces the surround sound well enough ~~> nearly perfect). Currently, it is quite obvious DPL I does not reproduce the sound pefectly (I'm aware of the way the audio is encoded, so that is the main difference, damn mono surround), so I'm curious about their second attempt with stereo surround.
