Hi,
I have recently started using the DVD2SVCD package and have a few queries about ripping.
I downloaded and installed the ForceASPI drivers as indicated, and then installed DVD2SVCD and fired off my first conversion, using the internal ripping, on the Ice Age movie.
The ripping took between 1.30 and 2.00 hours.
When I discussed this friends at work the next day they informed me the ripping should only take around 30 minutes or so, and have kb/sec rates at 4000 and greater.
I have run some tests using both the internal and vStrip options, and also SmartRipper with the following results based on a 1Gb VOB
Internal Routines average 600 kb/sec 35 minutes
vStrip average 8700 kb/sec 2 minutes
SmartRipper average 2500 kb/sec 7 minutes
My environment is as follows
P4 1.7ghz
256k DDR
GigaByte M/b with SiS650 chip set
40gb Hard Drive
Sony DDU1621 vs1.6 DVD
DMA checked on all devices
Windows 98 SE (with all Service Packs applied)
I tested the speed of my DVD using Nero DVD Speed and it peaked at just under 10X and averaged 7.3X
Can anyone shed some light on why I have such a dramatic variation in the speeds ?
Cheers
Kevin
PS. I have had a few minor problems when using vStrip in that it lost the first 20 minutes of a movie, and I had to re-rip using SmartRipper and locked up on another one
