View Full Version : Problems with sblive 5.1 and new drivers w/ ac3 passthrough

First, I've read the FAQ. Several times.

My problem is that while I can enable spdif passthrough with the latest cl drivers for my sblive 5.1, there are serious quality problems with ac3 that weren't there with my older drivers. Audio stuttering, cutting out, and video speedups are common. I'm on win2k sp3 w/ directx8.1b. I've tried intervideo, ac3filter, and moonlight odio and they all exhibit the problems in spdif mode.

Things were working great with my older drivers, but I decided to check out the kx project drivers, foolishly thinking that they'd at least have spdif output in there. Nope. so I got rid of them, and unable to find my previous drivers on the net, downloaded the latest cl labs 5.1 drivers. Now things are fucked. I can't find any older win2k live 5.1 drivers, except some really old ones where ac3 passthrough won't work AT ALL.

Does anyone have a link to sblive 5.1 drivers for win2k (I don't need apps or anything, just drivers) other than the latest ones? Some confirmed to work with ac3 passthrough, hopefully? I'd try those 3512 ones recommended in the faq but even extensive google searching of foreign sites turned up empty. Any help would be really great :D Thanks.

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately, I don't have windvd, nor have I ever had it installed on this computer. Also, things were working fine with the older drivers, so I'm 99% sure I need to get ahold of older live 5.1 drivers (like the 3512s)

WinDVD didn't resolve my problem neither.

what about to remove and reinstall AC3 DS filters and reinstall them ?
That worked for me.

Thanks for that hint too.. I'd tried that many times, didn't help. What DID help was somehow stumbling on these drivers here:
http://www.americas.creative.com/creative/drivers/sbpci/sbl51_2kdrv.exe

I just watched a divx+ac3 file, with no apparent glitches in the ac3 passthrough. I still need to test it awhile longer to be sure, but it definately seemed to fix the problem so far. I warn everyone w/ a live 5.1 that uses ac3 passthrough: DO NOT use any new creative drivers. If your drivers work fine, don't mess with them. I learnt that lesson the hard way :/
