View Full Version : Strange flicker between frames on SVCDs

On any SVCD I create with dvd2svcd, I get this flicker anytime there is a scene change or camera change. When I watch it frame by frame on my DVD player, sometimes I see the flicker between 2 frames, other times I'll see a frame that looks like the two images superimposed on each other and its like vibrating on the screen. I can see this when watching the Pulldown_Encoded_Video_NTSC.mpg file using winDVD. I've read the FAQ/searched the forums and can't find anything. I've encoded numerous times trying all kinds of different encoder settings but nothing works. I have no problem watching other SVCDs only those I create myself. Here's an example log when I backed up Roshomon (all my dvds are NTSC)

Most Japanese Anime's need to be de-interlaced. This could be your problem. I am no expert on these movies since I have only ever converted one and it didn't need to be de-interlaced.
May I suggest you search on interlacing?

You may also want to try and force IVTC and see if that helps, but I really can't say.

While you are waiting you may also want to try and use SmartDeinterlace and see if that helps. You will find it on the conversion tab in the middle on the right side.

this problem is independant of my cowboy bebop issue (that's just more of an annoyance) this is with all movies I try. (the canidate, roshomo, and doctor who to name the ones i've tried)

Could this be a problem of field order?

I'm not sure, I've tried using Bitrate viewer to set the correct field order and I've tried leaving it on Auto.

Why don't you just give it a try. Encode one chapter cbr 2300 with field order A and one with field order B.
